Every thing goes in eve.
But dont dispair, there are good people about, only last week I gave a Myrm, Drake BPC and a Domi away.
A healthy dose of paranoia however, does go a long way.

You know who else is a douchebag? Poker players. Those B*****ds took all of my money. Oh, and chess players. I moved my castle-y thing and would you believe it, he picked it up and took it out of the game! And I was playing counter-strike a few years back and someone actually shot me! Right there in the game! Well that was it for that game.

You seem to be under the misconception that pvp and scamming are some sort of personal attack against you. They rarely are.
If I scam someone I have no hard feelings towards them (my main even shared a corp with someone I've scammed previously, we got along fine). And it's not uncommon for the 2 year old+ players to give you advice after they kill you, especially if you ask them nicely (it's also not uncommon for you to be able to kill those 2+ year old players, I was out pvping in lowsec within a few weeks of subscribing).
Another thing to remember is that it's hard to have goodguys without badguys. PvP and scamming works both ways, so if you want to "fight the forces of evil", grab some pvp ships and go for it.

Pirates are rather friendly in my experience.
No one's that bad :)
(also, I think the game makes some players cynical and some players are attracted to EVE because of the lawlessness).

EVE is the only MMO that closely resembles the real world. If people can take advantage of you, they most likely will, since people are *******s.
It happens relatively more often in EVE because no-one knows who you really are.

May I ask why you chose to be Amarr, the race which finds it perfectly ok to enslave another one. I'd also like to know what the little skull&crossbones on your portrait represents. Doesn't really strike me as a symbol of peace and love.
Concerning the CSM. Since it is supposed to represent all players and all playstyles, I would find it rather unsettling if there was no low-sec representative on the CSM.
For myself, it was reading about the heist commited by "The Guiding Hand Social Club" that made me want to try eve-online. I have not once scammed or pirated anyone in the game in the 4 1/2 years that I play. I have helped some players with Isk, ship donations or advice ... but I have also participated in killing ships.
Relax and enjoy the ride.

See OP, this is the perfect example for that what you call douchebags. They grief, scam, canflip, ninja etc. you, and in the end they¦ll say that it was YOUR foult.
Be aware that EVE is THE MMO with most of this fine characters, simply because CCP allows/want¦s it to be that way. They call it "game dynamics".
I have only two advices for you:
1. DON¦T TRUST ANYBODY. 2. BE ON YOUR TOES ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!

Of course its evil...
Any PvP focused game has more jerks than any other game. For some odd reason most of people who enjoy PvP are morons and scumbags. I am not saying all, some people just play PvP for a fun sport of feeling of it, but MOST of PvP community are scumbags and losers... Also its a fact that as better person is in an online game as bigger loser their are in real life .

So let me get this straight...
You think it is EVIL for someone to shoot your internet spaceship in an internet spaceship game about... shooting the other dudes internet spaceship.
That about right? Yeah, sounds reasonable.

No. This is a GAME. It is competitive. Some things that YOU DO put you at risk of losing some ingame elements. Just like in any other computer game. You can choose to run a safer path or a riskier one, for commensurate higher rewards. This is all part of the game.
This is not Sim Stations, or Space Tycoon. It is not something where you can idly accumulate wealth for no purpose. It is a multi-player competitive game. Get that through your thick head.
If you don't want to play a competitive game, shut down your internet connection and go play a solo one. There are plenty out there. I recommend Homeworld.
I have two characters. One accumulates wealth, the other spends it. That's what that accumulation is for. Sometimes I choose to find friends in the game and play alongside them. I don't trust anyone I haven't chatted to with my ingame items just as I don't trust just anyone in the real world with my house keys. But that doesn't mean they are evil. They are just playing the game. It doesn't even mean for sure that they are roleplaying evil.
Yes, some people play mean. Just like some poker players do. But it's rarer than you'd think. That's what makes it so effective when it does happen. 99.99% of those people who join a corporation, chat with them, get given free stuff, and easy opportunities to make isk, are not only never screwed over by their ingame friends but reap big rewards from that friendship. If you play solo, is everyone out to get you? Well, duh. _________________________ Join Channel 'Mentors' for PVP and PVE help and advice ingame without changing corps. Join a raiding guild in a PVE game if you want to meet some real d-bags. In my experience, most of the player base here is far more helpful/outgoing/friendly than most any other game I've played. Try having a civil convo with someone who just killed you (or you just killed) in, say... Age of Conan (which I currently play).

To the Troll OP ... (just letting you know that I know you're a troll) ...
EVE isn't evil. It merely allows people to be evil.
Of course - part of that is ... to a degree ... role playing and EVE was designed to be role played if one so desired.
The thing is, in real life - we have much more effective law enforcement than we do in EVE so ... people are more constrained in their behavior - and yet - our jails are full to bursting ...
EVE is like a gun. You can use that gun anyway you want.
Most people use guns to shoot at tin cans, paper targets and occasionally at wild life (which they sometimes eat, instead of buying the meat from the super market or the fast food place).
Other people use guns to rob people of their property and sometimes their lives.
Things - aren't evil. They're merely assemblies of chemicals or code into some form that is usable by human beings.
Some people are attracted to games that let them victimize others. Other people are attracted to games where they compete - not just against the computer - but against other human beings.
EVE is also a team game. Like base ball or some FPS, you and your buddies get together and do things, in competition with other groups.
*shrug*
EVE isn't evil. EVE is what people make it.

I wouldnt say EvE is evil or even the players but there does seem to be some sadistic satisfaction in ruining someones day, at least with PvP you know who are up against, take the market PvP for example the only way to know who is 0.01 ISK griefing you is to buy their stuff or sell to them. -- Emo TraderJohn's Number 1 Fan!! |

Edited by: Antoine Charlemagne on 31/05/2010 17:11:40 Eve isn't evil,
You just need to know what your getting into. Its really refreshing to know that I can't trust anyone. Its nice and honest. I'm just a carebear mission runner at the mo (as I totally suck at PvP (for the moment I hope)) but when I first see that gate camp, I know I'll get toasted and have my stuff stolen. I'm am looking forward to the day when I get a bit of my own back and it'll taste all the sweeter as a result.
I have convo'd some of those who've killed me, and got great advice (and in one case 1M iskies! Pirates are friendly (mostly), they just want to blow you up). The only people that are (as you say) D-bags are those who take it waay too seriously and get all upset and whiney (I haven't found Pirates to be like that). Expect to be shot up in your internet spaceship and you'll be fine, evil doesn't even enter into it.
