that DX9 for FreeBSD was a mistake at the dl site from ms
but there is hope for FreeBSD - http://lickwid.ath.cx/~tlp/cedega/index.html

Cedega 4.2 costs $5 a month I would rather buy another eve account. It's great you guys found that Eve now works on WineX unless the performance is MUCH better I will use Windows. I feel conflicted I hate Windows it's so... ordinary.

Supporting more then one OS means that more time and resources must be allocated for each additional client OS version. Add to that that there are now multiple versions of the client, each with it's own bugs. Multiple-OS support is fine for stand alone games, but not for MMORPGs.

OMG, i was reading on the first page of this thread, and decided i was going to reply with "Gentoo 4 teh win", but it appears i was beaten to it --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |

Good find ;) I'd been playing around with this for a few hours, and tried your cache idea. That got me into the game, and the other thread about the crosshairs (running evemouse& in the background) was very useful.
Since I haven't been playing lately other than skill changes and paying bills, I realized quickly that one of the main apparent problems is that any image that already isn't in the cache by startup can't be written to the cache (or so it seems). I clicked on someone in chat to test getting their pic and was CTD'd.
Anyway, as long as I don't try to get info on people and things, the basic functionality is there. I took a shuttle ride to another station, and the graphics look good, frame rate was maybe 1/2 (~18fps). I'm going to run down the CCP directory tree and give all the files/dirs all permissions in case there's that type of problem with cache. It appears (key word *appears) that Eve can't write to its cache at the moment, or at least I'm not finding new files there after running it. I'll edit this if I can ever get past the cache problem.

Oh yes:: Some trivia for the linux crowd:
Distro: Fedora core 3 (but all latest rawhide) HW: Abit NF2/2.4ghz athlon xp/ti4200 (old noname)/30 buck TB soundcard DualBoot: Win2k (just for eve) and FC3 (rawhide for everything else/work). Nvidia drivers: 6629, source glue modified by me as described on nvidia's linux forums. Very minor mod to run with kernel 2.6.10-rc3-bk5 (well, I think all kernels higher than 2.6.10-rc2-bk7).

it was pretty much unplayable for me windowed
fullscreen it was pretty smooth
it crashed when loading peoples pictures, and also when pressing escape to get at the options
apart from that it was ok
not the sort of thing you are going to use in a fleet battle tho :>

I'm not sure how cedega translates filenames, but maybe the cache thingy is a case of bad upper/lower case files somewhere, or maybe the use of something*.* or similar instead of something* as it should be in linux... anybody tried running it as root?
Also, there is an option to retrieve pics from the server or to generate them locally, maybe changing that will help...

nice one, i'll have to test this out later on tonight, only reason i use windows is for EVE. I'll see how it handles on other distros such as Knoppix and Gentoo.

I think it's whited because it won't display.
My friend was trying it in Linux, and he had that problem.

I can't get it to install with the new cedega. I keep getting stuck on it uncompressing the faceres.stuff file it makes it about half way down that file and I get a error. Any thoughts on that? I am using the large downloaded exe.

Mav,
One or two things maybe of interest. If the first has nothing to do with it, check the second.
1) When cedega installs from the big .exe file, it creates a huge /tmp/*.tmp file (I've forgotten the exact name). This file winds up being the workspace for *all* the .stuff files, and is over a gigabyte before it winds up and cleans things. So .. You have to have about 2 free GB (probably more) to even contemplate installing the entire thing. Afterwards, you only need whatever size the ccp/eve dir holds. (~1GB)
2) If you have tons of free space in your / (whereever your /tmp folder is), then try unpacking that .exe file on windows just to be sure it came over the line ok.
