Looks like a beast, but I've never seen one in-game.
What would it take to make people want to use it?

You don't see them because they have a crappy set of bonuses. Neutralizer amount with medium neuts and their very short range, bonus to velocity factor of scramblers but retaining their range... not very useful tbh.
It would be incredibly awesome with 5/5 slots and neut range and web range bonuses, to the point where everyone would want one. This way, no, what is the point?

The reason you probably have never seen one is cause they are only used in low / null sec to pvp with. They are used, you just need to get out of carebear land to be able to see them.

The bonuses are great actually, and that web easily reaches out to 18km with a faction one. The reason why you dont see them much is because they are a one-trick pony that fights in web/scram range, and attracts blobs because its faction.

I do agree though, web range would have been a lot better or at least a decent drone bay to work with. Now it has a pricetag of a Curse for far less utility bonusses and drones.
And web range 18 km has nothing to do with the ship but with the faction. I guess it's worth a few billion too - so not really something you'd risk easily.
Too bad, it's really a very pretty ship ..

CCP decided to nerf them from 4 turrets to 3... why i do not know cynabal still would be better ... proves that they are biased towards minmatar stuff and that is understandable ( icland / nordic / minmatar vs catholic amarr blood raiders vampires pussies etc ). makes me sad really ... they removed 4th turret with 100% damage bonus and added 2 small drones ... fair trade. :C Eternal Will. |

Its questionable if you would have seen them even with the original 4x turret configuration. At four turrets, it would out gank a HML biased curse at the cost of maneuverability, raw speed, and alll that sexy neuting range. With three turrets, the Ashimmu can't outgank a HML biased curse, it can't outneut the curse or the pilgrim, and it can't outtank the pilgrim.
Insult on injury is the inability to lock down turret ships like the pilgrim and curse can. A pilgrim can solo any auto-cannon boat it manages to decloak at zero on - an Ashimmu would neut it, and then promptly die in a hailstorm of RF-Fusion. Combined with a T1 resist profile and a desperate shortage of cap, slots, and fititings, and the Ashimmu is unable to run any form of decent Active tank to survive this return fire.
All told, its a novelty ship. You could make a decent gang-tackler with its web bonuses and 2x 1600mms - making it a giant flying brick designed solely to web things. When it comes to flying around and playing Dr. Kevorkian with other ships cap, it is simply an inferior choice to both the Pilgrim and the Curse.
Having tested them extensively on Sisi, your best bet is to run some sort of buffer + FMP setup, fight at the edge of web range, and pray you have enough of a speed + cap advantage to run when you are forced out. It doesn't have the cargobay for extended cap booster use or the slots for local repair, so it is going to be forced to dock and resupply after every fight. It is much better than the old lolversion now, but it is still not a serious combat vessel - just a shiny toy.

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 20/05/2010 10:27:35 It would be a preety cool ship with 5/5 slots and web range & neut range bonus; something like a bastard Huggin/Curse combo (but w/out the drones and stuff and w/out the sheer neuting power of a Curse). This way it's just bad. Sure, you can stick a faction web and neut and neut at 14km and web with heat at 17-18, but that's not worth the ISK tbh, and you're well into the danger zone.
If you want a good blood radier ship, the Blaghorn has it all.

This is spot on.
If it's a cruiser today, it's either nanoed or disposable. This means pretty much all ships that are not good for that single role, is a waste.
Vigilants still gets a cookie for being able to put out insane amounts of damage, especially at the edge of web/scram range. It can still be nanoed.
Cynabal is obvious, as is Gila. Phantasm is also rare compared to the others, even if it remains somewhat fast and shieldtanked, it doesn't add that much and the zealot already covers the role.
THe ashimmu, has to commit to fights, to have anything on the vigilant at all. And if it commits it's simply not that strong. If it had still had the 4 turret slots, the phantasm would've been obsolete as the ashimmu would've done the same damage, while having a neut and web bonus. Parrots, commence!

It's a Pilgrim without the ability to pick its fights carefully, which is the Pilgrim's only redeeming feature thanks to the covert cloak. It also uses a hell of a lot more capacitor. ___

I'd still fly a pilgrim even if it had no cloak. 2 bonused TDs are not a joke.

No you wouldnt, you would fly the curse. And even though the curse has amarrs ****ed up shield resistances, it is still the better choice over armor tanked pilgrim because it does have the gtfo ability.

Perhaps a few more drones may also be a slight advantage *cough*?
