Im trying to bomb some people that are on the gate. Theres about 10 guys and a bunch of cans. Im 30km from the gate when i launch the bomb and warp out. When i see the log though for some reason I only see my self doing 0.0 damage to the star gate. I figure that maybe the ships could get away but I know the cans will stay so why am I unable to damage anything but the gate?

Not certain if you know that bombs are unguided munitions. They go where your ship is pointing, if you have not lined up with your targets its possible that your AOE weapon is detonating wide of your intended targets on proximity to the big target (the gate). Another factor to consider is the range of your targets from each other and the gate. I don't know if bombs affect containers.
Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the reply. Basicly these are the steps Ive been following.
1)Align to object( Usually an astroid belt) that is directly behind my targets. 2) when my ship is 30km from target I uncloak 3) I mash the bomb launcher 4) mash the warp button in the selected target box and warp off to the belt.
It appears that my bomb is heading towards my target so I dont think thats the problem. I asked some people in alliance chat and someone said that if a bomb hits a structure like a pos shield itll null the effect of the bomb. I bombed these guys 4 times though and all 4 times it didnt do anything.

You wont see damage done if your not on the same grid. Either you can have a spotter watch, check your KM's, or warp back at range and look to see who's still there.

first u say 30km off gate then u say 30km off the target u got to be 30km off the target and that might mean 15km off the gate depending on the gate size and ur position
test on sisi; eject form a ship, come with a sb, bomb that ship see how it goes, smack in local if the ship instapops

If the gate is between you and your target find another vector! Happens in asteroid fields too, when a bomb hits a rock.

Edited by: Ugly Eric on 14/05/2010 10:35:52 Hullo!
I've noticed, that the logs bugs in the case of bomber. I've been apart in several killmails and even got few killmails so that my logs shows only 0.0 damage to stargate or station. Still in the killmails i've been apart with various amounts of damage. The cans should be destroyed thou, even if the ships stay alive.
It's wery hard to kill a ship with a single bomb thou. A frigate pops, if it activates its MWD, but not without it. Same to a destroyerhull. Cruisers tend to have too much EHP to a single bomb (maybe a untanked BB, or falcon with MWD on?). Hacs, BC's need from three to six bombs and BS's from four to 16 bombs.

Industrial though go pop with one bomb, mwd or not. Transports... Depends. They don't have very high hps so you COULD pop one, but they tend to be tanked (and hard to catch anyway, especially the cloaky ones)

bombs don't like star gates if it goes off with in 0 of the gate the gate will eat the dmg most the time

ya Bombs can kill cruiser hulls ez if mwd is on (even with it off some times) tho bs need 2 bombs or more
like this kill low bomb skills with non ship dmg type bomb (no tank tho) had few with med size tanks but 2 lazy to look them up
o and 2 bomb bs kill Here

I love misinformation. Raise your hand if you dont know what youre talking about...
...
Cowards...
Warping off grid before your bomb goes off means you wont get damage logs on your target(s). You will see a log entry if you hit a gate or station. They are indestructable, hence the 0 damage.
You will still do what ever damage/signature to your target if they are within 7.5k m of the bomb when it goes off.
Youre still doing it wrong though, as you arent going to pop targets reliably with a single bomber. Untanked indy ships are a good target though. They pop easily.
Learn to bomb in a fleet. Solo bomber is inefective at best. Annoying to your target at worst.

Then do it :-) AFAIK the bomb radius is 15km, not 7.5.
Also I have mis-launched a bomb twice into an asteroid (yes, yes ... go and laugh ) and the battleships within the radius did NOT get any damage. I did not warp off back then, because I wanted to know how hard I will hit those Angels.

Personally, I launch when I get to 35km...
If they see me and they are looking to catch me, chances are good they will turn towards me.

It has been explained to me that bombs also detonate if they come with in a 2500m proximity of something. Not sure if there is true to this. Is it possible that something pre-maturely detonated your bomb.... Possibly their tactic to place cans out to pre detonate incoming bombs? But then again, just my input....

School has just begun for you! I will now quote some stuff from various other sources: Originally by: Database dump
typeID valueInt attributeID attributeName description displayName 27918 15000 107 explosionRange Range in meters of explosion effect area. Explosion radius
The typeId is from the Shrapnel Bomb. The excerpt from the dgmTypeAttributes table says "Explosion radius is 15000".
Originally by: CCP Tanis damage bombs: causes 6400hp to 8000hp (depending on skill) of em/thermal/kinetic/explosive damage within 15km. The damage is reduced by signature radius, but is not affected by speed.
Thread is found here. Also states, that the AoE is within 15km. If it would be the diameter he is talking, I'd be save outside the 7.5km radius.
Also: Here and here.
So please, Min Mae, if you have proove that the 15km are in fact the diameter and not the radius, enlighten us all!

LOL if you think a solo bomber is useless I have some killmails to show you... which means you obviously don't know how to run a solo bomber....I kill frigs and cruisers all the time T2 frigs included tho I don't recall if i have had the opportunity to take a T2 cruiser as a solo bomber i expect I could...
obvious to me you are doing it wrong

No its nonsense.
Bombs will bounce off structures if you leave it too late. Test it if you like - align to a regional gate and drop the bomb at 25km.
Also remember that if you're bombing targets on a regional gate then dropping the bomb on the gate may not hit any of them. The regional gates are massive. Its quite possible for two ships to jump through, end up 50km from each other and still be only 10-12km off the gate. If you align for (regional) gate then your bomb is heading for the centre (anchoring) point of the gate which is likely out of range of targets.
tl;dr bombs don't have proximity fuses; they bounce; regional gates are big, bomb targets not gates.
