Me and my brother were discussing moving some ships yesterday and annoyingly found that most of them were rigged and were looking at mutiple carrier runs.
We then came across a brilliant idea.
Why isn't there a Freighter with a small cargo hold for ammo and some modules and a massive Ships Maintenance bay? Even if it was just jump freighters that had this extra cargo hold it would make moving around the sand pit so much easier.
Thoughts below please

Put the ships in a courier contract to your bro, then put the packages in your freighter. Done

That seems to be a problem that concerns a lot of people.
so, I'll just throw in some ideas that seem interesting to me.
The freighters are huge ships that have no possibility of fiting anyting at all, it seems.
i would like to suggest the feature for them to have slots, like normal ships.
you could fit nano fibre hull, damage control afterburner / MWD or a cloak, giving them the slots. they are frikin expensive ships, massive size, slow as hell , and can't fit anything , that's like a big floating crate, for a ship hard to build.
other thing that seems interesting, is to give them a "configuration kind like a sub system" where the player decides if he can load a bay for cargo transport, or a bay for ship transport. - customisation is always a method of please a lot of different people, and allow the player to decide if he wants to haul ships or cargo, would certainly please the needs of lots of different players.
ideally, the ship/cargo bays should be divided in 120.000 m3 and a player could configure the Freighter to have cargo or ship transport bays, to a max of 8 transport Bays
there is already blueprints for the capital cargo bay. they could be tweaked, and the freighter manufacture requirement from 105 +/- capital cargo bay, would be built apart, where it would take 10x material , to produce only one capital cargo bay, and those cargo bays would be "equiped" in the actuall freighter/carriers, and other capital ships, in a "similar way to the sub systems"
in any case, with more or less customisation level, the player should be able to decide if the freighter could take riged ships or cargo, or a mix of both, by loading different bays. that would solve a lot of issues to people that complain about this subject for a long time. really , now one likes to make 20 journeys, and make 10 - 30 jumps, to carry a rigged battleship at a time.

Its in the commonly proposed idea's thread. CCP also mentioned a while back that they were look at this issue.
rigged ship transport. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

We really do need something in this game for moving alot of ships...I can fit a few of the small ones in my Orca. But the bay is too small for BS's.
It would be nice if Freighters could be configured with maint bays.

you can put fitted/rigged BS into freighters already. use courier contracts.

Freighters aren't support ships, guessing why no maint bay. Orca has them cause they are support vehicles (used as a hauler alot....but its a support vehicle). Carriers, same thing, dual purpose ship.
Courier contract the ships as mentioned.

As said before: courier contracts for rigged ships. The max courier contract size is equal to the max Charon cargo bay size (981k m3). BS volume when assembled is in the 400k to 500k range. Unless you're talking about creating a much much bigger ship, a Charon would only be able to carry 2 of the smaller BS at a time. Thats actually not far off the carrier bay of 1mil m3. Even if we're talking about trading cargo space for maintenance bay space, it doesn't look like it would provide more space. I think it is probably unlikely they allow more space than that. But maybe.
If you ever need to move rigged ships around in hisec, give Red Frog Freight a try. |
