The feature list for Tyrannis so far:
- Alienware keyboard integration
- New texture technologies and a new Scorpion model
- Event Landmarks
- Eve Gate
- Planetary Interaction
- Insurance changes
As we all know eve is a PVP game, the core driver of this PVP is industry and with PI we are finally seeing NPC goods be moved in to the hands of players, it's nice to see CCP delivering on a long held aspiration to make all aspects of the market player driven. This is something many of us long term players have been asking to be implemented for quite some time.
This ties in with the insurance issue that has been a bone of contention for a lot of players. While I've done well out of my free suicide ravens it's good to see CCP responding to the many pages of forum outrage with a balanced solution that prevents insurance being an inflated NPC mineral buy order while still protecting newer players. +1 to CCP
The truly visionary bit of tyrannis is how it delivers extra depth to our industry and pvp while clearly moving towards a multi platform virtual universe, some backward thinking people may not like the idea of dust, incarna and spacebook but from another point of view we are witnessing the next evolution of computer gaming. If anything keeps eve alive for another 7 years it will be this vision.
We're getting all this as well as new textures, a new ship model, new content in the form of landmarks and a tie in with a PC manufacturer that can bring more players in to the game. I really don't understand what people are complaining about.

Oh the irony, someone called Captain Futur3 chooses pedantry over being happy that someone is working hard to ensure eve has a futur3. Thanks Ex0101 for pointing out that his pedantry is incorrect too.

I thought the sisi mass testing was an indication that CCP are trying to fix the lag c/d? Lag is an inevitable consequence of having a non sharded server, sometimes there is more, sometimes there is less but it will always be there and CCP have been working on it since day 1.
Sure there's the Jukebox, UI, rockets and a million other things that need fixed but think of all the features the devs would have abandoned to make programing time available for all these fixes. If we had an eve that worked then it would probably die due to lack of content.
Thanks to all at CCP for the new expansion, keep up the good work.

You obviously missed the memo. It's not just a new texture, it's a new texturing engine. They're changing the way model texture, bump mapping and lighting effects are done. The first model they showed off was a Scorpion, there are more to come.

So what? These textures are on SISI since before Dominion. They will stay there even after Tyranis and wont make it on the main server. So this is all, but not a Tyranis feature.

I know that. But still, this is not something where we will profit with the next addon. Its more a direction for the far guture of Eve (which is not bad, but if CCP works as fast on the models/textures as they have done for Tyranis, we will see all ships with new textures in 2020 maybe).

Lag fix did not make it into this expansion, sorry. It is now planned to be released together with Incarna.

Edited by: Nicholas Barker on 01/05/2010 14:31:40 lag fixing is just changing the code, it's also not something they'd brag about either, since it reminds/tells those who are considering joining that eve potentially has a lag problem.
Also, they aren't totally sure things they do will fix it, since TQ and sisi are very different. So they probably don't want to open their mouths just yet. ------

I'll take the Alienware keyboard integration over yet another lag patch thank you very much. Why not upgrade your internet connection if you're having latency issues?

I'm saving my adulation/condemnation of the tyrannis expansion for when it launches and we get the final feature list and an actual chance to play the finished content.

Planetary Interaction and Eve Gate aside for the moment: Tyrannis is nothing more that added features from bored developers probably done on their own time for things that interest them.
Now, for Planetary Interaction - from what I understand you're basically just going to spend isk to make facilities to mine a planet and make slightly more isk (in highsec)....oooh, exciting!
Eve Gate - Not technically part of the game in the way the current forum isn't technically part of the game seeing how most players don't even use the forum. I'm looking forward to seeing and using it but really....it's not game content.
I wasn't really around for the Apocrypha expansion so may I'm wrong here.....but do these expansions actually provide anything exciting to the game?

I came in during Revelations and found the same pattern after every expansion:
Weeks and weeks of "WHAAAA!!! This is now broke, that is now broke. I'm going to emo-rage quit. Things where better back in 1920s ...etc."
Followed by: patch update 0.1, patch update 0.2 ..... patch update 3.5 etc.
It has been an established pattern ___________________________________________________ CSM - Bring back Medium Shader! |

I see Tyrannis as laying foundation. Eve Gate has a -lot- of cool potential. Planetary Interaction can evolve into a wonderful tool for industry, and much needed added depth to industry. The new methods of doing texturing means the next patch is going to see some gorgeous new ship models, which is necessary for keeping Eve alive. I like the note people figured about Alienware, as a potential for bringing in new subs; always nice.
Here's the thing...We didn't get fancy new ships, or wormholes, or new capitals, or lots of things. But this patch very, very, -very- much has me excited for the winter, because I have a feeling it's going to be huge. And Tyrannis is cool enough for me to keep me happy, especially with all of the industrial changes. What you're forgetting is the changes to minerals, the changes to mission / drone salvage...The industrial world is going to be entirely turned upside down.
The Unit pursues invention, manufacturing, mining, and research. Evemail us if you need anything related to Science and Industry. |

Hardware compatibility doesn't bring players to a game. Games leads players to compatible hardware, with few exceptions.
New ships certainly have more excitement to them but it's limited and generally rehashing the same of what we already have with the exception of new classes of ships. And we can never have too many of those.
Personally, I'd like to see more dynamics. I keep saying it but I'll say it again. We need more physics introduced to the game. Along with the collidible objects that we already have can we also make them tangible? I'd love to have someone shooting at me as I duck behind an object to avoid being hit. I don't think that's too much to ask in a space game with people shooting at you all the time. That one little addition would add so much more dynamics to the game. It would give smaller more maneuverable ships an advantage over larger ships other than purely speed without increasing their firepower. Assuming one couldn't scan through tangible objects, it would make the game much more of a hide and seek game depending on circumstance and location. It would give miners an ability to "hide" from directional scanners giving them a slight boost they desperately deserve. It would make fleet battles more 3 dimensional. It has the potential for defeating, depending on circumstance, the blob mentality. Image a fleet fight in an asteroid belt. More than one tactic (blob) could be used.

I wonder if CCP will finally fix the bug with the ATI HD 4850/70 cards where all portraits/pictures appear as pictures of white noise, all ships appear in the hangar as blue and green static and all stargate/station portraits are black.
