I finished off the last npc in a lvl 4 mission in rens (0.9) and went to change to a salvager. When I got back there was a ninja salvaging a (my) wreck. he was already marked as outlaw red+red skull, but no flashing. I warped out and came back in about 4 mins with a pvp battleship but he was gone, and so was my mission objective cargo!!!. but no aggression counter had started- how come no aggression countdown if he stole my loot?
I'm trying to get to grips with this ninja salvager thing- I lose about 50% of salvage in Rens and wondering what to do about it...

Edited by: SabotNoob on 14/04/2010 21:07:32 You can do nothing about Ninja Salvagers as it is a perfectly legitimate profession from CCP's perspective. The wrecks you generate are free for everyone's taking. I've done it plenty of times and I don't mind when people do it to me while I mission around.
I think one thing you could do to prevent it is to equip your missioning ship with a tractor beam and salvager, rather than having another ship for that role. This should cut down your losses by a little bit since you can start salvaging right away, rather than wasting time going back and bringing your salvage boat.
EDIT: Not sure why aggro wasn't activated when he stole your loot though... ____________________

Always pick up mission objective cargos before leaving to fetch a salvager. Anything left in space is fair game.
As for getting 50% taken in Rens: I'ver never heard of anyone dealing with a percentage that high. Move. _________________________ Join Channel 'Mentors' for PVP and PVE help and advice ingame without changing corps. Click Channels and Mailing lists > Channels > Join > Mentors |

Thanks for guidance, but why didn't he get an aggro countdown?

What makes you think he didn't?

The thief will have a visible (to him) aggression countdown that resets every time he moves loot from any container flagged as yours. You wouldn't see a visible timer until you shot at the thief. You can still shoot him as long as he's marked as outlaw on your overview and you don't get a concord warning when you engage your guns.
Also, don't bring a pvp battleship to kill a ninja salvaging frig/cruiser It'll just end badly for you as you die slowly and he orbits under your guns.

if he was solid red background and red skull, then you can shoot him, when they are flashy red they can shoot you (ccp changed it to be this way a patch or two ago)
as for the aggro, it only shows up on his screen, wont show up to you till you shoot at him, or he shoots at you (although this one should result in concord).
and you should always get the mission objective cargo before you leave the mission imo.

As said before don't leave your mission without the required item/ fit a tractor beam.
Adding to that, I like to say that ninja salvagers Jawa's or not, it is the best way to handle the mission and salvaging aftermath. Reason is that most missions are in what they call deadspace complexes, where you cannot use a MWD (mini warpdrive) but if you're done with the mission, have picked up the mission item and filed it with the agent, the deadspace complex disappears, leaving only the wrecks behind. This way you can fit a MWD on your salvager boat and much, much faster pick up the loot, that is if a Jawa hasn't been there before you.
Another tip is to not mission in Rens or any other high population system. Moving to a much quieter system will give you less Jawa's running into your mission stealing your stuff.

1. Don't mission in Rens.
2. Upgrade to a marauder and put a tractor/salvager pair in the high slots and salvage the battleships as you go. Some people do this as a standard Domi fit since they let their drones do the heavy lifting anyway. A corp mate flies a Domi with only 2 guns in the high slots. Rest is drone links and salvaging gear.
3. Do some "extreme" salvaging - leave a few hard hitting rats and fit a salvager to tank them as you collect loot & salvage. When you see a ninja, warp out and let him take the aggro.
4. NEVER leave mission critical loot. I always ensure I have sufficient cargo space in my mission ship to grab this before getting a salvager.
5. Don't mission in Rens.

I thought that stealing mission loot (such as the Damsel in Damsel in Distress) did not flag you? Has that changed?

If the item is in the cargohold of a destroyed ship it will flag the ninja.
If it popped out as a container, then it doesn't flag.
