After running numerous level 5 missions with a few corpies, I feel comfortable enough to start soloing them with my two characters. However, I have come to a dilemma: Should I use a torp golem + domi logi combo or a ganglinked vulture + nightmare combo?
My fittings are as follows:
Golem: High: 4x seige launcher II and three tractor beams Med: 4x Pith a type specific hards, 1x LSE II and 2x Republic fleet TP Low: 3x CN BCS and 1x DC II Rigs: large rocket fuel cache partition II and Large hydraulic bay thrusters II
Domi: High: 4x Large shield xfer (meta 4) and 2x Large energy transfer II Med: 5x Cap recharger II Low: 5x Cap power relay II and 1x DC II and 1x 1600rt Rigs: 3x CCC
Vulture: High: 4x HML II, all three shield ganglinks Med:3x LSE II and 3x pith a type specific hardeners Low: 4x SPR II Rigs: 2x purger II
Nightmare: High 4x Tachyon beams II 1x Large energy transfer II and 1x med energy transfer II Med: 1x CN xl booster and boost amp, 3x pith a type specific hards, 2x true sansha cap recharger Low: 2x Imperial Navy Heat sink, 3x True sansha CPR Rigs: 2x CCC 1x CCC II
I can fly all of these ships, and the tank/ damage are comparable. Which do you think are better for dual boxing level 5 missions? Thanks

Edited by: Noran Ferah on 12/04/2010 04:11:38 I use a rattler and go pretty much solo - not with this character as it is in faction warfare, but I pull missions with this one as well as others.
I wish i could use the Golem, I LOVE my Golem. But, as you well know, 90% of these missions eat 100% of your cap. I used to use a scimitar as my secondary, but now I idle a max skilled siege leadership toon with mindlink in-system and I don't need the logi anymore.
My desire would be the Golem, my advice would be the NH.
If you can fly a rattler tank with all t2 sentries and a nightmare, that has epic potential.
Edit: I am ******ed. I meant to recommend your vulture/nightmare combo, not a nighthawk

The domi can handle the neuting with its energy transfers.

I triple box on lv5's
use damnation claymore onerios
damnation is tank ofc claymore running links thou i'm thinking of switching to my slep as the links are just not needed and the logi as rep for the damnation.
Its complete overkill not on any lv5 has my armord dropped below 99%.
there usually a m8 tags along in a nightmare/navy apoc with dps to speed things along.
i can also do a kronos/vagur onerios setup as well but with this u need to primary teh neut towers as it lowers teh dps till there gone. ... my vid watch now

Exactly. not sure how someone can bring THREE toons, finish them much much slower than any half decent dual combo and then give advice about it.
go with a passive tank and a gank ship, so in the op's case vulture +nightmare/golem (any of em will work).

Could you elaborate a little bit? I am intrigued by this.
Do you *need* the scimi/cs alt, or could you roll like this solo if you didn't afk at all and focused on removing incoming dps asap? |

Assuming you're doing them in lowsec:
Lolwut passive Rattlesnake + All-fighter carrier parked at a POS. Carriers aren't at all prohibitively expensive at the tricked-out-mission-ship level, and it is hard to beat fighter assignment for absolutely no-attention boxing.

Unless you enjoy having 2 setups go with one that gives you versatile damage types. NM sucks against Angels/Matars and there are quite a few missions against those.

I use a Nighthawk w/RR Domi and it works great. So I would just suggest replacing the Nighthawk with the highest DPS boat you can fly. The Domi works great as a RR boat. I use a very similar setup that you have listed except I dont' use a plate in the low slot, I have a large reppers. It is still cap stable if you turn off one of the energy transfers or a copy of the shield xfers. But this means that it can tank a spawn long enough for you to kill the incoming DPS, so you dont have to warp off.
Another reason I like the Domi is you can just set my drones to aggressive and pretty much forget about him. This makes dual boxing a lot easier. As far as you DPS/Tank you can use anything, I think the Domi can keep just about anything up with easy. EVEHQ has a nice feature that lets you see how remote xfers will affect your ship. This is a good way to see just how much tank you need on your main boat and how much you can leave off for more DPS.
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps.

VERY intrigued by this idea
I think that the vulture/nightmare might be better purely because in the off chance I need to warp out the logi, the vulture can handle its own for at least long enough to warp back in. With a golem, my tank would melt in seconds with nothing repping the shields.

not sure why you'd swap Gardes for assigned fighters, since you only gain about 50 DPS.
Carrier pilot is much better off in a gank BS
Edit: unless you're willing to bring the carrier into the mission, that is. Also, fighters won't enter deadspace areas, so point is moot 75% of the time.

I used to use 1x Nighthawk (4 LSE, and 1 EM passive, 4 PDS and DMG control in low, Extender rigs, just to get a big buffer so you stay alive long enough for the repping domi to arrive. Slightly weaker tank than Vulture, but NH can acctually do some damage aswell) and 1x Domi with 5 Sheild transporters and Heavy / Sentry drones. Havent yet met a mission that could break that. (Rouge spy 3 of 3 can be hard though if you manage to bump away on the warpin :))
So when it comes to your fits, use the domi with the vulture insted, Since BS's as tank tend to have a lil too mutch sig radius and gets hit alot harder.

I have used the nighthawks and vultures for lvl 5's but if for some reason you don't get support there fast you will melt fast.
As for the golem/active tanked BS; I have lost 3 of them when my logi had to warp out due to waves. So I have switched to using damnation with domi support. Damnation runs links with massive buffer tank (slave set) as the domi cap transfer (1 t2 mod) and RR (3 T3 mods) mids are fitted with cap recharges and lows are fitted for dual repping with t2 energy rigs. Drones do all the damage with this setup.
But the main point of the damnation is that with the deadspace fittings you could easy use a high DPS ship to just do damage with just 1 rr as it gives you the time you need to kill warp scrambing frigs if you have to get out. I would also use the domi for support over the logi as the domi can rep itself.
