I use both a vargur and tengu for blitzing missions.
Vargur for anytihng that isnt kinetic resistant. Tengu for kinetic.
My vargur fit is very simllar to stoicfaux's on BC. found here
Though I use a Pith A-type medium SB so I can a MWD as well.
Eventaully you may want to upgrade to a mach, but the vargur is cheaper for both hull and fit, and more survivable. |

this is how I have mine fit. tbh I haven't flown it much, usually fly the mach. just did an AE for the first time in forever in it and it did pretty damn well. with the shield boost bonus and the boost amp I barely had to touch the booster. A pithum c-type boost amp and 2x invluns is how I had my golem fit ages ago, and with the vargs resists it should be plenty. suppose I should try it in more missions seems like a pretty awesome ship.

With my Mael, I use one invul and two mission specific hardeners. Does the higher resists on the vargur make two invuls provide enough? Having that extra mid would be nice. |

I've gotten lazy and mostly omnitank my ships. vs angels extra the tank is fine, tbh I haven't really flown many other missions with the vargur. also with the gank that comes with a varg and high skills you can kill enough incoming dps that you can get away with not having a whole lot of tank. |

I suppose its a good example of DPS being your tank. I've noticed its really comes into play when dealing with Serpentis being its mostly blaster boats.

heh with serps if you can stay 30km away from the blaster battleships they can't touch you. Core Admirals try to go to about 50km, and they seem to be the ship that hurts the most against my mach (xl booster and 2x invluns). in the tengu or ishtar they either just miss or the resists are so great I don't even feel them. |

@OP. It really depends on how you're going to run the missions. If you're going to blitz, I'd go with the tengu for it's small sig radius, very long damage projection, and good mobility. If you plan on killing everything, go with the vargur for the higher DPS and better general utility (drones, salvage ability...) Both of them are awesome ships for missioning =) |
