I was thinking about getting into some pvp recently. The only bad thing is I am a solid caldari player. I have great skills in this area. I am really not interested in cross training another race to pvp. So what would the eve community suggest? And dont say cross train. Because its not going to happen. |

LOL @ the generic Caldari smack in here. Currently buffer HAM drakes are doing good work. Moas can be good, Ferox can be put to some good use too. Merlins aren't too shabby. Theres more but I don't really fly Caldari myself that often. Lemme find you a link to a vid with Drake kicking butt...
There you go. Remember to give props and a bumb in the thread. ----

Edited by: Jaedar Metron on 09/04/2010 01:10:33 - Speed-fitted Condor for tackling if you have no skills at all (lol) - MAPC and MSE fitted Kestrel or Merlin if you want some cheap frigates to learn the ropes, how to scan, how to survive, etc. Tanks very well for frigates, but for obvious reasons these aren't suited for nullsec. - Assault Launcher Caracal is a Anti-Frigate beast. Perfect for lowsec, and fitted decently (T2 and Rigs) this can even take down T2 frigates with relative ease. Travel in wide arcs around enemy cruisers if encountered (IE, get the hell out of there). - Blaster Moa. This is on par with the Thorax in many situations; better tank makes it a more resilient choice. It loses some versatility from the lack of medium drones, though. - Blaster Ferox. Not much to say here, it's like a bigger Moa... There are better ships out there, though. Lots of them. - Drake. You've probably heard about the amazing passive tank this beast has. Ignore that. Fit a Shield Buffer (LSE+Extender rigs), and tear your enemies a new one with HAM launchers. Alternatively, fit HM launchers for more range and less oomph. This is probably the most versatile battlecruiser in the game, and great in a wide range of situations. A decent solo-ship once you've become familiar to your romaing area as well.
I has no experience with battleships, so I'll leave those... Anyway, if you're new to pvp you should look into these ships first, no matter what skills you have. Learn the ropes, then look into the more advanced/slower options.
Hope this helps :D -JM

If you have the ISK left, Caldari have excellent PvP T2 ships. * Rook is a great solo ship (just like with all Recons you have to choose your targets) * Falcon to some extend as well (lacks dps + drones tbh) * Onyx is a good gate camper. With a 30+km point and a tank * Crow is a very good inty, which has some DPS over distance

I'd go for a navy scorp/rattlesnake depending on gunnery/missile skills over navy raven for pvp myself. The dmg output is less but this thing can tank like a beast.

As someone stated, blaster harpy/moa/ferox, drake, rook, raven (if you can solo pvp in a BS) are good solo options.

lol. Everytime we're doing something and a scout reports a solo drake, if we're not actively shooting something it's "Tackle to the gate nao!"

what the hell does tackle to the gate nao mean? And I have not heard anybody mention a Rokh. I thought these would be good blaster ships.

Rokh is pretty good for a blaster boat. It is a disappointing sniper, but that is due more to the suck of rails than the ship itself.
Merlin: Blasters, rockets, medium shield buffer. It's probably the second best T1 frigate, right under the rifter. Kestrel: Rockets, medium shield buffer OR armor buffer. If you shield buffer, you lack a web, which makes controlling a fight difficult. Crow: Low damage, but great range for applying that damage. Harpy: Blasters for up close, rails for kiting, both work. Moa: Blasters, a bit slow but it works. I'd almost put it on par with the Thorax. Almost. Caracal: AML Caracals murder frigates. Fit a medium neut for bonus fun. Can play long range support, too. Heavy missiles and various EWar in the mids is FUN in a gang. Cerberus: It can put out some nice damage. Drake: HAMs. Good passive tank, good damage, gets a bad rep because of all the SPR fits. Ferox: Not the best, but it works in a pinch. Raven: Fit a rack full of torps and you will cause some amazing damage. You just need to understand that you can't really engage small prey.
Stay Away From: Hookbill: I personally like it, but only because it isn't a Dramiel or Daredevil. Disappointing overall for a variety of reasons. Hawk: The worst AF, by far. The active tank bonus sucks, even with cap boosters, and rockets are awful. Raptor: I can't think of a worse interceptor. It works if all you want is tackle, but even then...
Interesting: I have run into a few PvP Ospreys. They always surprise me. Someone around here has some Osprey PvP videos that I saw once and I was flat out amazed at what it can do.
Caldari can fight just fine - not quite as well as the other races overall, but they have a lot of very viable ships for pew pew.

Blaster rokh lows = all damage mods + 1 damage control mids = web, scram, invulnerability field, cap booster, microwarpdrive, large extender for good measure highs = T2 blasters w/ void can pull 10km optimal + a good 16-17 falloff depending on skills rigs = ancillary current roughter, shield extender rigs x2 drones = I recommend a set of 5 hobgoblins and 5 warriors
you can pull around 1000dps and have a really nice buffer tank because of the bonus to resists per skill level.
I can usually get around 60k ehp, beats a megathron too, keep them at 15km and they can't do crap too you.
