Edited by: Cecilia Syal on 06/04/2010 08:15:59 I been playing a few months now, and do many things to earn a living, but still find myself at times, tin rattling and begging in local... be it in 0.0 or low sector. and have met many people and find it fun.
I never have much ISK as i spend it on needed skills, ships etc, buy orders for market trading...so my need is real, I never lie! or make excuses, some have loaned me money instead of donating and i always pay back in time.. Also i never harass people i just ask while causally talking or sometimes a random ""please spare some iskies *rattles tin* ""...
So yes i do pvp, missions in 0.0, research agents, 0.0 stuff and copying bpc, market trading too, and investing in other things, but I still find myself begging! and those who give me money seem to not mind people trying other ways to make a living. except a few recently, bully types who tried to push me around saying i was scam people..
Recently i earned enough to fund my account with a PLEX from one kind donation or else I would not be playing!! as my credit card had some issue, so I continue to travel in my ships with my cardboard box, and beg when i need money.. (pic)
I would like to hear some opinions why its so bad, or if you think its ok as a profession

I'm thinking you need to be sorting some RL stuff out rather than playing internet spaceship pixels that you apparently can't really afford. |

Beggers in game get treated no differently than beggers in real life.
Out of the thousands of people you see in a day, 95% will ignore you, 4% will abuse you, and 1% will help you.
All those 1% add up after a while.

See, 'profession' has come to mean 'way of making money'. Now there's your problem right there.
A professional has some skills or depth of experience that make that person's time more expensive to buy. They also contribute more to economic and cultural activity.
So yes, begging will generally be looked down upon.
We are, after all, professionals.

I would argue that a professional does not have to contribute more to economic and cultural activity. In fact some current professionals detract from them.
I would also argue that a beggar can and does develop skills that aid in their money-making, for example an understanding of psycology would help alot.
Begging, to me, is alot like sales and certainly there are sales professionals!

I'm puzzled why somebody would beg for ISK when there is no shortage of it whatsoever. The game is not designed to keep you poor. There is no reason why you would not be able to amass your own fortune.
Also, to beg, in this game more than any other, is to completely miss the point of EVE: you don't beg for what you want, you -take- what you want.
A beggar has no business being a capsuleer.

Making isk easy maybe that why i try different, like i say i do mission level 4 and 0.0 mission i try and also rat and can make very easy, even i loot pvp kill once and earn over 60mil in module, i can earn same amount sometime in less time beg
Guess it like saying why should someone go fishing when they live next to docks and sell fresh fish, maybe it is the fun and challange or excitement to earn other way?
And yes it do take some skill, if just spam local you get block and petition, if you casual, honest and funny and nice to people you can sometime get more than isk and meet new friend!, you must have humility to lower self to call other sir or ma'am and live off what isk or scrap module they give or allow you salvage. and always be gratefull even if give 100k isk or level 2 mission salvage/ loot. or 100mil donation or let you tag along for duo of death level 4 & even keep the officer loot etc.
I log in each day wonder who i will meet and how much i will earn from others kindness and i also return kindness and help new pilot myself. I am not greedy and even sometime return if person put in one extra 0 in donation. or accident send me whole wallet amount that happen once! I try now to live off what i beg only as only other thing i enjoy is 0.0 mission and pvp & i run at loss for those two now

Every activity in EVE will be denigrated by someone.
People hate
* Mission runners. * Ratters. * Miners. * Salvage thieves. * Suicide gankers. * Canflippers. * Industrialists. * Market manipulators. * Traders. * Mercenaries. * Scammers. * Corp thieves. * Pirates. * Anti-pirates. * Faction warfare pilots.
And so on. No matter what "profession" you choose, someone- probably a lot of someones- will hate you for it.
So, take a nice big glass of their tears and enjoy yourself.

For every generalization, there is at least one exception. 'Chribba' is quite possibly the least hated person in game. His profession, most trusted man in eve. --

I have my moments.
You don't get good at the merc profession by being overly bloodthirsty, though. Patience and cold-bloodedness counts more than anything else.

True. The utter devotion of so many people for him is really astonishing. They say that "everybody needs an enemy" but apparently everybody needs a middle aged, bald, minmatar teddy-bear to snuggle with as well :D

If you are doing all that and still find you have no isk you are doing something wrong
This. I also call "BS" on the OP.
As a noob myself (under two months), I find that the only thing limiting me is time.. time to train the skills I want to have. The ISK isn't a problem whatsoever. Missions, Exploration, and even mining are quite profitable (on the PvE/carebear side of things). However, those things actually require you to -do- something besides sit in Jita.
The time spent begging could be spent mining or running missions and have a much higher (and steady) return on investment. Unless you get your kicks by pretending to be female and coming on to horny basement dwellers for ISK. *shrug* Different game, different kind of mailbox to dance on. Same amount of effort required.

Well, its kinda ironic that everyone in EVE only trust their cash to a single bald man with a duct tape fetish whose dreadnought seems to have been stuck in high sec before the last train out of town went by.... In real life this person would have been jailed in and looked apon as a pedophile luring in small children into his "Veldnaught" offering "Veldspar".... ____________________

I've been begging professionally in EVE for almost 3 years and its working pretty well. Personally I don't look down on what I do. Horses. Before the automobile, it was the horse that was used for transportation. Wars, exploring... were fought with men on horses. Must have been interesting back then when many people had horses as |
