If you use shield amplifiers :
Magnetic = Em resistance
But if you use energised armor hardners:
Magnetic = Kinetic resistance.
Not sure why this is
Does anybody have any other confusing or odd descriptions in EVE ? Maybe a little known effect from a skill or a commonly mis-understood skill ?

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 16/03/2010 22:04:51 Electromagnetic particles may be deflected by a magnetic field.
editing for clarification:
A shield generates a magnetic screen to reflect EM particles in a shield matrix. An armor plating generates a reflective coating to reflect EM particles away from the armor itself.

They generally have a substantial amount of hull modification options but limited electronic systems."
Only 3 Roden ships even have missile hardpoints, much less being missile specialized.

Lets not forget the Enyo, and the Phobos (which doesn't even HAVE missile hardpoints). The Oneiros is a logistics so I guess it can be excused for not having missile hardpoints... From the fluff the Comet is a Roden ship too, but it's now lacking missile hardpoints (but that's a good thing, cause the old comet sucked, apart from having GFPD on the side this is... I want the GFPD sign back ).
Fluff should not be confused with the actual game... -------------------------------------------------

I think they wrote a lot of the descriptions way back when the game started and just never bothered to update the back story as the game evolved.
If you really want a laugh check out the information on the planets and stars. Temperate planets, which are supposed to be Earthlike, have an average temperature of around 25 degrees Kelvin. That is 25 degrees above ABSOLUTE ZERO.

Colour coding is strange on some stuff too. Not that important but bugs me (OCD alert!)
Yellow ECM = Amarr Red ECM = Minamtar Blue ECM = Caldari Green ECM = Gallente
All makes sense as the ECMs correspond to the faction primary colour.
But missiles for example..
Amarr racial damage (EM) = Blue Minmatar racial damage (EXP) = Yellow Caldari racial damage (KIN) = Green Gallente racial damage (THM) = Red
They dont correspond. They dont even quite correspond as a colour coding for attacking the 'opposite' faction (i.e. Amarr vs Minmatar, Caldari vs Gallente)
Then you start getting to stuff like Phased Plasma ammo being blue...
Hardly game breaking, but potentialy confuzzling for noobs, seem to remember it took me a while to get my head around things. Ah well....

look at the background on the ships , caldari blue, min is reddish, galente is green , amarr is goldenish, same thing with drone backgrounds , so the ecm actually matches. |

IIRC some modules have their name spelt as "defence" and others "defense".
Defence is the proper spelling of the word. |

Not where I come from, unfortunately. It's Defense, Color, Catalog, Aluminum. (We like to be "different" in NA...) Also, "spelled."
Not trying to be contrary, but I think it just depends on whether they farmed their writing out to American or UK writers. But I absolutely agree it should be consistent, whatever they decide.
Also, while the OP's color examples are confusing, it would be really weird to me if the Thermal missiles were green, and the EM ones were yellow. |

Aye , the missiles come closer to matching your fitting screen catagories....except my kinetic is silver and the missiles are green.
