Hi community My mate and I have been thinking about starting up another eve-online lottery. so I just want to ask what you all think about the idea. ofcourse the real fame and isk is in original creative ideas that half of eve wanna use.
but we aren't that creative, on the other hand we have a lot of time on our hands, a fair amount of isk for starters. we can manufacture ships module and so on if we are going to do ships for prices.
only thing is, is there enough people out there, that want another lottery ingame. do people want higher buy ins and even higher prices or maybe smaller prices smaller pay ins ?
give us some feedback so we know what the players of eve think about yet another lottery.
Best regards Dsan

Lotteries are a tax on the stupid; the more the stupid are taxed, the better.
If you like, you can hire me as a consultant for setting up the lottery. I could give you a few pointers for a fixed price (not for a cut of the profits).

Hello Dsan,
If this is a serious inquiry, you can contact me for some consulting.(Free of charge) I prefer eve-mail, as convo's can take up to much consecutive time.
You might know me from my own T2 BPO lotteries, or from the lotteries I secure, so if you would like some experienced advice, shoot me a mail.

back with an update so I contacted Grendell, got some advise there. I have also worked out a small spreadsheet to kinda put down some numbers and get some perspective on how I can do this.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AlDAZGLQsBjgdHk4SU5JSjVZNzRhLXdSSlQxOUhlSWc&hl=en
so if I had to go with that spread sheet there, I would just have to check what donations had been made to my account fill in peoples names and isk amount. it will then tell me how many tickets they each have and how many it is in total. I take the total amount and put it into the www.random.org random numer generator and pull out a number and that's the winner.
is there any direct flaws in that procedure ? the prices and amounts given in the spreadsheet is not the final ones. but a pretty good estimate of what I plan to do on my first round.
Best Regards Dsan
Ps. please come with feedback and input.

You start taking isk for lottery and you alt(s) by some tickets and surprise they get the winning number out of random.org.

yes, credebility is and will always be a problem in eve. best thing I can do is to get someone rather trust worthy to hold the price isk durring the round.
but I have no way to prove the winner isn't myself or my alt or even someone I know.

There are ways to deal with the issue but I would recommend seeking advice from someone to remove the alt prize receipt issue.

Yep. Easiest way is to base off some other random system, such as a national lottery of some sorts. Since honestly if you could predict that outcome you'd be wasting your time to scam an eve lottery ;) Of course, this means structuring your number of tickets around an existent lottery.
3rd party to hold prizes bigger than your reputation.
Don't break it into too many tickets. A 100,000 ticket lottery could give someone a cheap titan, but more likely will result in lots of unhappy customers waiting on a lottery that never fills. Remember the faster you can turn over the lottery, the faster you'll get whatever your cut was, and can run another one. Longer lotteries mean less money for you, more time/isk costs in advertising, and less happy customers having to wait to see if they won anything.

Hmm, spending a lot of time working my way around this lottery thing. I look at it like a boat i'm building and I have to make it water proof before I push it into the water.
so I made a small site for info and of course it can be found at www.lottery.dsan.dk so biggest issue right now is the isk holding agent thingy, and then spreading the word of my little game I guess. |

So 'possibly scamming' is one of your motivations, but not the top one? Not very compelling.
Having a core intention 'to build a reputation and trust with eve players' sounds awfully similar to 'to build a reputation and trust with eve players so that I can make a big scam some day'.
I'm not convinced that you've correctly identified the 'biggest issue' with your proposed offering. |

I see your point, I will rephrase that, because it's obviously not what I mean. |
