I'm curious. I'm new to the game (just finished with my trial time, actually), but I've really been wanting to explore and toy with complexes. However...I've gone to nearly a dozen of the varied DED 2 static complexes, and though I can often clear the first few rooms, I always find the same people in the final room with everything dead and the rewards looted. I've gone back at multiple times during the day, and these people appear to always be there, the same person each time, just sitting in the final room. This has me curious - am I faced with bots, or just patient people that leave an alt logged in 24/7 in the final room on a broad orbit around a barren asteroid/etc., and just check now and again to see if the loot has respawned?
I've since taken up exploration and have been enjoying myself immensely with that, I've merely found it a bit odd that the past several days I've been playing nearly non-stop (yes, this is how I'm spending my Spring break >.>) aside from sleep, and yet every time I check out these complexes it's always one person camping the final room all day.
Mind you, I'm not complaining so long as it isn't bots I'm being faced with - if it is all legitimate, I'll be annoyed, but simply find my enjoyment elsewhere. I'm building up a monetary buffer (And getting the requisite skills) to dip into toying in low-sec and C1 wormhole exploration soon. <3

Don't automatically assume that what you meet is a bot.
MMOs are totally bursting full with no-lifer with nothing else to do than spend their life doing menial tasks (while others make money on their shoulders  ).
As such, check if the guy is doing something, if so try convo them. If they won't reply try again in 1 hour for 2-3 times, then report them as suspect botters.

It makes sense to do it if you have the time and patience to act same way as they do... means going to final room and camping it until loot drop structure or NPC spawns.
If there is someone inside, there is still chance you will be fast enough to get the loot when it drops. Even if you didnt get the kill, you can ninja loot the can. You will get flagged as a thief, and that allows another guy to attack you without Concord intervention. You can however warp out immideatelly - or fight if u stay and get attacked.
If you wanna get a chance to get the loot, you can wait for downtime at complex site, and log in after its up.
Another thing you can do is to find similar complexes in nearby lowsecs. They are not camped and you will find overseers much more frequent there, but then beware, since other kind of danger lurks there

'tis why I put up the post, to see if the 'waiting in a static complex's final room all day' was common or not. => I'll simply have to toy around elsewhere, which doesn't bother me at all. I'm not worried about getting my feet wet in low sec, wormholes, or most anything else. There isn't much to lose!

Hello I have another noob question
I didn't know that there are static DED complexes and dynamic ones. I thought they were always static and the ones I found where empty (hisec though).
If I find such a complex via scan probes, how can I tell if it is static or not?

bring a cargo scanner and have a couple friends in destroyers on standby
if he holds all the loot gank his ass, if not wait for the hauler alt to come in and gank them

Static ones are visible on star map by turning on "DED combat site report" or something like that.
Other ones you find with exploration using scan probes - ofc there will be much more sites in low sec again.
