Edited by: Induc on 14/03/2010 20:49:18 Hey, I'm thinking of starting a second account and I'm kinda split about which path to go.
My main character is Amarr, kinda pvp focused, so I would like my alt to be able to support him.
My plan is for my alt to be able to provide RR/cap transfer, probing, salvage, (and maybe cyno eventually), and the first step is to get him into a logistic, preferable a Guardian.
Since I'm Amarr I want to try something else, probably Minmatar as first choice. (even though anythinge except Amarr could work)
There are some problems with this setup:
1. Would it be stupid to choose Minmatar and then get Amarr Cruiser V only for a Guardian? (I really don't want to be flying other Amarr ships)
2. By choosing Minmatar and training towards logistic, that means when I'll get Minmatar Cruiser V later I'll also unlock the Scmitar, which means I then could fly both of the two best logistics. Is that even useful or should I focus on one?
3. If I want to use a perfect Guardian fit I would have to get some armor tanking skills. But that means to also fly Minmatar ships I would have to get shield tanking skills too...
TLDR: Basically, I want my alt to fly a Guardian as perfect as possible, but I don't want to fly any other Amarr ships, and preferably I want to be Minmatar. Would that be stupid?

Guardians are great when used in pairs, solo not so good. So unless you have a Guardian buddy you are better off with the Oneiros which need Gallente cruiser 5 that will open up the path to Ishtar and Arazu.

My vote: Not Stupid at all.
You have a primary use for the alt , and its a good one. Your alt could fly/transport any ship the main could , and that might come in handy. The main would be focused one way (BS/DPS , Caps), and the second another (Logi , Tackle , Recon , T3 , Etc.) 2 cruiser 5's is not a bad thing Minmatar have many ships that armor tank. To be great in all Minmatar ships is a long haul indeed , but perfect armor training is a great place to start from

So, from a strictly pvp perspective, unless you have two logistics the Oneiros > Guardian? Why? :o
The only real problem I have with the Oneiros is that it looks like crap while the Guardian don't.

Look at the bonus of the Guardian, it get a nice boost to energy transfer. The trick is with two Guardians to point energy transfer arrays on each other to create a massive amount of cap from nowhere. A single Guardian doesn't have enough cap to do much at all.
Now the Oneiros, just like the Scimitar, is designed to be self sustained with cap to run the remote reppers.
The Basilisk follow the same design principle as the Guardian that it needs a partner to be fully functional.

Don't worry about the race of your character, plays no role at all in what ships you fly. Don't think because you choose x race you have to fly x ships.
As for your main question, Guardian is the best for fleet work, but is always a nice boat to have around you if pvping. Amarr Crusier V also opens up ships like the Curse and Zealot, which are two great ships in PvP, whereas Gallente Crusier V (for the Onerios) really only gives you "okay" ships for PvP, the ishtar and Lachesis, namely.

You don't need alot of skill points for logistics so just start with the one that's most important for you and then get the second one. My alt only has 8mil and flies close to a perfect guardian And basilisk among other things, the second one only really adds 20 days or so to the training and opens up alot of other nice options.

I guess exactly what logistic to chose depends on what your main is doing.
and it is easy to make a guardian cap stable with 6 rr, it just doesn't to much else.
