RvB is great fun and a superb learning experience.
I got into the Public channel, asked a few questions, applied, was accepted and got into a big fleet fight within 5 minutes.
Simply great.

I'll wager you won't get more fights anywhere. Red v Blue is about pvp, all the time. Join us on the R-V-B channel, and you'll get a good idea of how it works.

My name is Major 7th and I endorse this fine organization.
For those players out there, new and old, who are interested in low(no) pressure, affordable and fun PvP with relatively minimal drama this is where you want to be.
Drop a couple mil and some cheap frigs, sign up, jump right in to action and watch the killmails start rolling in. Its as easy as that.
If the experience doesnt live up to your expectations you can just bail, no hard feelings, and you havent lost anything. No pressure, no burden of commitment. Pretty sweet.
Give it a shot. Its fun!

WOOT!
I'm primarily an industrialist after recognizing that I just wasn't playing enough to get really good at PvP. I looked around for an alliance that would let me industrial and sometimes PvP and came up empty.
Then I found RvB, made a quick alt, bought 10 T1/T1 frigs and gave it a try. WHAT A RIOT!
First time out was HQ defense, and my little frig was zooming around putting those 3 DPS hits on everything in site...until I died valiently. And got in another frig.
Bottom line is this is all the fun of PvP at a price and time committment anyone can do.
NO forever roams looking for a fight; just step outside :)
NO worrying about JCs and implants - no podding!
NO building up huge skills for huge ships - grab a T1 frig and let howl the puppies of war!
C'mon, the blood is nice and warm...

RvB is good for cheap instant action PvP. Sadly over time the enforcement of the original principle that the premise ought to be fun has deteriorated and now smacking and trolling often reigns supreme especially during US evenings/nights.
It's still a good place to join to pew pew, you just need to be able to mentally tune out a bunch of people. Personally I wish either side would just follow through and remove those who are time and time again troll and smack. |

Hmmm, I agree to a point. The smack can be a bit annoying/undignified at times but its a vocal minority... and its always the same small handful of individuals. The mass majority, I'd say 95%, simply throw up a GF in local win or lose and fly back to gear up for the next round. If 20 people are involved in a fight and just 2 of them jibba-jabba back n forth incesssantly afterwards in public it can give an inaccurate impression of the attitudes of the majority. Plus, if all else fails, there is always the mute button.

Bumpity bump.
Yesterday was birthday so I spent other thing and actually shooting in EVE rather than maintaining the my battle reports.
It was a busy week for me I've got a ton kills and done lots of fleet fights and even lead one short roam until it turned into a fleet fight that we were seriously outnumbered (gotta blue a chance after all)
I'm not going to a blow by blow this time since it all kind blurs together at this point.
I do however want to address few concerns that have been raised in the thread.
You do need a thick skin in RVB (like anywhere else in EVE).
I've said before this is not a gentleman's dueling society. It is a high sec war. People gank, blob and play station camping docking games and talk smack and Fair fights are generally limited to arranged engagements and by fair we mean similar numbers of pilots and types of ships . We do try to keep things more or less even with big encounters but this is mostly a matter of judgement and desire to keep the fights going (People who are constantly facing an overwhelming force tend to take their toys and go home meaning no fights for anyone) but this is generally up to the FC's which can anyone willing to step up and take the initiative. Unfortunately some folks do get it and sometimes it takes a little time to get them straightened out.
It goes with the territory people lose expensive stuff and go all emo. Whatever it's part of the game and why I keep telling people in these posts to follow EVE rule number 1 and only fly what you can afford to lose and too leave their expensive mission ships at home.
I want people coming over here with their eyes open. We want pilots who are going stick around for a few weeks or months who are going to hang around long enough to develop some skills (both player and character)rather than leaving on their first day after their mission CNR gets popped.
Be prepared when you come over to lose a lot of ships particularly if you don't have any pvp experience. Perhaps even if you do if you're one of those fail fit flyers that populate the Kills boards in low and nul sec.
Now while RVB is not a PVP school I can tell you this Assuming you have the right attitude and a willingness to learn you will improve. I'm evidence myself and I've seen such changes in others as a new nugget gets polished into a finely tuned killing machine.
I went from losing a ship every engagement some nights up to 10 ships in a single evening to my current status where I've killed over 100 ships in the last 7 days while only losing 2.
I've gotten good in small gang situations, and am starting to learn to FC. I still suck at solo but I'm starting to work on that. Now that I no longer get that nervousness when fighting real humans I can concentrate on actually flying and fighting.
As I've said before I'm not special I'm not all that smart I just fly a lot with good people and practice practice practice.
So come on over and join up. Join R-V-B channel in game for more info. Oh and feel free to convo me if you want any more info or advice.

Have only managed to get a couple of nights in but RvB seems to be great for having some easy fights going without having to fly 30 jumps and hope you will meet something that: a) engages b) doesnt bring 20x more friends then you do

I played around with R-V-B back when I had just started playing EVE, I just came back to the game a few days ago and am preparing an alt to throw back in, because this just sounds like it is even more fun now then it was back in december. Are there any guides to building an RVB alt, other than just train for rifters?

I've heard RvB can get expensive, especially if you have no pvp experience. If I wanted to join, would you recommend I drop out whenever I wanted to replenish isk, since I imagine mining might be suicidal...

It can definitely get pricey. At first because you'll be losing lots of ships while you learn and later because you'll be losing more expensive ships though less often because you want better performance (and better fits improve your chances for survival)
As to income sources that's up to you. We do have some folks who mission while in the corps and I'd just suggest to do your mission running a fair number of jumps away so it's less likely that an opposing team will find you (and I've heard RVB refered to as PVP for the lazy so 5+ jumps is probably sufficient (save for Dodixie too many folks going in and out of there for stuff) The only people who'd really know where you are would be the officers and they won't narc you out since you're making isk for the corp.
You can of course simply drop corp do your mission thing then re-ap as well.

Oh hai guise!
Well erm, few things happened since I posted about that 2.2B macharial kill!
Made enough iskies from lewts that I fitted a Raven, at which point I decided I would never need to do L4s again so I brought my faction fit CNR down to play :)
While that all went on i were training for a stealth bomber, and after two weeks of training I hopped in it for the first time today... AND GUESS WHAT? ;)
Yep, got killed within an hour of undocking it! And after spending 30M fitting it, 30M fitting a new one and refitting a drake the day before I had to beg in corp chat for the isk to buy the rigs for the new manticore xD
So basically, I went from having 150M+ isk from loots to oweing 5M isk after a nasty string of losses! But hey ho, all part of the learning curve, and to be quite honest I would rather had lost that bomber here than in nullsec where my pod would of probably been popped...
Oh and I was also made a team commander for red fed due to my contributions to the corp =D
So yeah, great fun, great laughs, great experience and for the second time in RVB I am totally skint...
But I still have that faction fit CNR to play with blues... Just you wait ;)
Ohh... and err.. JOIN RVB
and...
