As the topic says, are they worth their increased cost? It may sound like a newbish question, but thought I'd ask. Furies have a very attractive DPS boost, while precisions look like they would make frigate rats easy to deal with, but I'm not sure if it's worth it... By the way, this is my signature.

It depends on the circumstances, really. Fury heavy missiles are great when shooting at battlecruisers or bigger. Fury cruise missiles, not quite so effective. They can be good, but you need good missile skills and rigs to make up for their huge explosion radius. Precision missiles lose so much range they really aren't worth it. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Liang did some awesome calculations not too long ago on a handful of missions.
He analyzed differences in ammo cost vs isk/hour created + net profit with T1, faction, and T2 ammo.
I'll be damned if I can find the thread, but iirc the general conclusion was that in BS heavy missions you increase your isk/hour enough to make T2 ammo more profitable than T1.
It seemed counter intuitive to me until I saw his figures. T1 ammo gets the job done at considerable less cost than faction or T2. But with T2 (properly applied) you income more than compensates for the extra costs of T2.
If Liang drops in, maybe he can post his figures.

Generally speaking, the long range t2 turret ammo for short ranged weapons is cost effective. A megapulse abaddon with scorch rips apart lvl4's faster than the average tachyon paladin. You'll burn a lot of t2 ammo, but the higher income more than compensates. However this is my experience using ships with a direct damage bonus rather than a RoF bonus. A RoF bonus will burn ammo much faster as you simply use 25% more ammo per rat. So on such a ship it maybe different. -----------------------------------------------------
