I just started training Drone Navigation to V so my little guys can get to their targets faster. However a friend in game told me that its not just the MWD that is sped up but their orbit speed too and thus the higher my Drone nav skill the harder time my drones will have hitting their target.
I really hope this is not true as if it is this is the first skill I have ever seen that there is a negative to training it.

That used to be the case, it was a bug and it's been fixed.

Is there still an issue with MWD overshoot: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=734343 says Drone navigation û sharp double edged skill: makes your drones MWD faster, but it also makes them overshoot more
and refers to the older http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=483399&page=1
So they were fixed? Navigation and sharpshooting now always help? that would be convenient!

Well i sure hope its fixed since there was no indication of a negative when i trained it and its not like I can remove the skill. Actually im alraedy 4 and half way to 5 im going to finish 5 eitherway. Cant stand to have unfished partial training.
Shesh there is or was an issue with sharpshooting too? I have that to 4 as well.

even if it isnt if youre a drone boat pilot all your drone support skills should be at 5 so the negatives will offset eachother if they havent been fixed

Is "That used to be the case, it was a bug and it's been fixed." ambiguous in any way?

I did not understand how a response to orbit speed answered overshoot, so it was ambiguous to me.
OP was about "orbit speed" and never mentioned overshoot. The posts also mentioned "overshoot". I am a noob but these seem like two separate things. I.e., do the skills change how far out you orbit and whether that distance lowers your ongoing DPS. Overshoot means well overshoot, which I would interpret to lowering your initial DPS but having no effect on your steady-state DPS. Which sounds like two bugs not "a bug."

Here was how it worked. All numbers are entirely, 100% made up, just for reference.
Drone flew at 1000 m/s, and had a transveral of..say..iuno...how about .2. Now, train skill up one, and suddenly you fly at 1100 m/s, and your transversal becomes .22. Except...Your tracking is still .2. Your drone now misses more often. You train the other skill up, that I think increases the optimal? Maybe? And your orbit radius is bigger, and transveral decreases again. Maybe? I'm half asleep, and it was something like that.
So what it used to be is you needed Navigation at IV, and Sharpshooting at V. Or nav at 3, and sharpshooting at iv, etc, etc...it just had to stay ahead. Pretty sure it's been fixed, though.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sorry, since you mentioned "Navigation and sharpshooting" (sharpshooting has nothing to do with overshoot), linked to a thread which has literally nothing to do with overshoot and everything with the bug of the thread topic, and posted in a thread about the orbit bug, I kinda missed that your question was on overshoot alone.
I haven't had a drone overshoot in years, but I don't use Warrior IIs. In any case, any 'lower initial DPS' should be more than offset by the fact that your drones are at the target sooner.

Any MWD overshoot is pretty irrelevant. I use warriors a lot, and they will prettymuch always overshoot a slow target till their MWD turns off. The thing is, they don't hit anything when their orbiting with their MWD on whether you have Drone Nav 1 or Drone Nav 5. So don't worry about it, and train Nav to 5, the speed is worth this very minor drawback. |
