Welcome to a new issue of History of MD, a sporadically updated report of all IPOs and bond offerings posted in Market Discussion. Since 2006, 286 IPOs and 331 bond offerings have been posted. These were discussed in 2,183 threads.
The number of new ventures before the release of Dominion is unprecedented in the history of MD. Therefore this issue takes the opportunity to take a closer look at these ventures, specifically those started in October and November 2009.

In total, 38.1 billion ISK were raised from the MD community by ventures that have been successfully completed. These ventures paid an estimated total of about 9.6 billion ISK in interest (ca. 25%).
Approximately 4.7 billion ISK went into the pockets of scammers (not including Yih).

Awesome stats Haskell, how did you gather up the info?
EDIT: nm, didn't read the disclaimer :D
Those last two graphs are simply the number of bonds which requested X ISK or offered X return, correct?

Very nice work! Really good to see these figures presented so accessibly.
Thanks!

If you would have waited 4-5 more days, your second post would have had a slightly different sum listed, as my bond's maturity date is reached

Actually, the second part is completely hand-crafted. I went through all IPOs/bonds that were posted in the given time frame and compiled basic facts like ISK asked, ROI promised, collateral, auditor, and outcome. Spent about 3 weeks reading all threads.

Yes. For example, 25 IPOs/bonds asked for ISK amounts between 0 and 1 billion ISK.
Originally by: RAW23 Edit - 03/01 = 1st March or 3rd January. I assume the former but thought I should check.
All dates are in ISO 8601 format, i.e. YYYY-MM-DD.

Awesome. I expect this kind of stuff from the QEN, but it never delivers.

Not that it matters ^^ but the numbers is a bit wrong.
9B in total MD roi?
TMPI paid out around 21B ISK alone so far.

Great presentation work!
I wonder: how many "active" bonds/IPOs turn into failed/scammed ones versus successful closures? I.e., once a venture gets off the ground, how likely is it to become a failure? And how does the lifetime of the bond/IPO affect this? (Prediction: success rate decreases dramatically as the bond/IPO lifetime increases.)

If I understand it right, 9 bil is the total interest paid out from bonds/IPOs that started in October and November and had closed out before the 1st of March. It's a very restricted snapshot. Longer term bonds (such as Akita's) aren't counted in that as they haven't closed out yet, nor, I assume, are any IPOs (because they didn't liquidate). And bonds/IPOs that paid out in that period, but that started in, say, September (or earlier), such as Info Specialists, won't be there either, if I'm reading it right. So, TMPI won't be counted both because it hasn't liquidated and because it started before the period being examined in detail.

<perfect answer>
This.
Originally by: Packtu'sa I wonder: how many "active" bonds/IPOs turn into failed/scammed ones versus successful closures? I.e., once a venture gets off the ground, how likely is it to become a failure?
Of those ventures that I looked at, five turned into a scam and none failed after it took off.
Originally by: Packtu'sa And how does the lifetime of the bond/IPO affect this?
I didn't analyse the lifetimes, but I believe most ventures that I looked at were scheduled to have a lifetime of about 1 month. The vast majority of ventures that fail do so before they start. |

Wow. Cheers to you for putting in some serious tedium to give us some nice data. Maybe you should work with CCP on the next QEN :) --------------------------------
