Lighten up guys, The next expansion will give us planet interaction. That's much more important than stability.
Who cares if you can't anchor and online a TCU when you can fail at manipulating planetary resources after spending billions. --------------- I like my ships like my women; Small, Fast, and bound with Duct Tape. |

How do you know which database they use? and anyways, SQL is a real DB standard...

Originally by: Rovo Has CCP considered using something to forecast and possibly prevent issues like this? I noticed something happening with my BSM software monitoring my assets before this happened.. CCP Why not implement this for your self? Could help you prevent issues like this in the future..
I use FireScope to monitor the eve servers (API), my network connections, and EVE-Central Market data in near real time. (I use there API to update a local database and then use a JDBC connection to it to run real-time data analysis.)
If I can do this from a user perspective, I am sure you can do something similar from the inside with a greater degree of accuracy and possible keep this from happening.
If you have more questions you have my contact info.
Rovo
You don't typically predict SQL problems. If you did, then you most likely wouldn't have a problem to begin with.

Originally by: CCP Fallout We are currently investigating issues with Tranquility. Stay tuned for more information.
Update: We believe the issue to be related to the SQL database and a restarting the cluster. P.S. SQL jokes are as passe as BECAUSE OF FALCON jokes ;)
have you heard this one? "A SQL query walks into a bar and sees two tables. He walks up to them and says 'Can I join you?'"

OK I have been on eve for about six months now and nearly every crash is related to CCP and Microsoft SQL. How many times does it have to crash before you all get off your ***, hire a real DBA, and use a real enterprise product. MSSQL isn't that, not even in HAC mode. You would think after all these crashes you would quit drinking the ******* koolaide; even Microsoft isn't using MSSQL for critical internal applications or even external ones. Not bashing Windows here or even Microsoft, just pointing out what should be obvious to you by now that MSSQL isn't cutting it for what you want.
Also on the "stayed tuned" how about for once actually giving us that more information, like nitty gritty technical data. Was it a DB issue? I/O issue? OS issue? DBA issue? coder issue? etc etc
@scorpious: Because we have this conversation every crash and nearly every time it is SQL related. The CCP DBA (or sysadmin who thinks he's a DBA) has stated they are wed to Microsoft SQL with clustering service in the past.
@durka durka: Amen brother. Though they don't really care because folk wed to the game aren't going to leave over this (or at least not in mass given they don't have a space combat competitor) and the way to get new customers is marketing hence stability and bug fixes take second play to new untested whiz bang features that screw the game up. Can you say planetary mining (because we don't have enough mining in the game already), dirt, in-station avatars, etc etc
