As the others have said, competition between EVE and DUST is not all that important, the money goes to the same place. Besides, even if Dust were on the PC (which it should be), I seriously doubt that many EVE players would swap out for Dust; The games will be too different, FPS vs. MMO...
Dust players would be like slaves to us, little minions to play on their little planets for our profit and amusement! CCP, PLEASE ADD PLANET BOMBING! There are epic lolz to be had!
From my understanding, they are going to get this under the MMO line which means you can use a silver membership.
Under Microsoft's rules, MMO's can use Silver memberships since you have to pay for the subscription. Take a look at Final Fantasy XI to see what I'm takling about.
I'm gonna get this game and prolly twice (once for 360 and once for PS3) and when it comes out on PC i may or may not....I got alot of friends who are into the idea of eve (since I started playing and could tell them about all the stories) but alot don't have the time or money to devote to it.....they LOVE the idea of being able to join the unviverse of EVE....
So....either my own corp or the corp I'm with will have roughly about 10 or 12 man DUST corp when it launches (assuming everyone get's game at launch of course) -------------- (Insert whatever you want here) |

I won't be playing DUST, but only because I don't own a console machine. More than happy to FPS game, but I use my PC for that.

Console gaming just inertly feels more fun, the only thing PCs have for me that consoles don't is game mods and user generated content.
So I'm somehow not a console gamer because I play my PS3 from the same chair and on the same screen I use for my PC?
This whole "consoles are for casually relaxing on a sofa" idea is ******ed. You could set up either system in either of the configurations you've mentioned.
PC users always react this way. "Computers can do anything in any situation!" etc.
Anyway. No, not really. I'm not going to tear apart my studio or my office to take my computer out and relocate it to my den of supreme relaxation. Nor am I going to take the big tv and bring it into one of those places. But apart from looking at it very literally, it's not just about logistics. I can only take so much keyboard and mouse per day. I don't want to be using a computer ALL of the time. Consoles also offer the benefit of a certain degree of stability and consistancy not present on PCs.
I know i'm not going to change the minds of anyone set in their ways,i'm just making claim to fully justifiable appreciation for console gaming over pc gaming for some folk.
Have fun hunching over your desk with your friends, filing company documents and playing eve. I'll be playing Dust far away from a computer, drinking something delicious with my feet kicked up and having fun.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I just made you read my signature. |

Probably because ... they can, with the right software/peripherals.
Originally by: Ella C'Tronix I'm not going to tear apart my studio or my office to take my computer out and relocate it to my den of supreme relaxation. Nor am I going to take the big tv and bring it into one of those places.
Maybe you need more than one PC, or more than one input/output location.
Originally by: Ella C'Tronix But apart from looking at it very literally, it's not just about logistics. I can only take so much keyboard and mouse per day. I don't want to be using a computer ALL of the time.
Are you at all familiar with the function of the USB port? Pretty much every console controller out there is now mirrored by a USB connected device.
Originally by: Ella C'Tronix Consoles also offer the benefit of a certain degree of stability and consistancy not present on PCs.
Unless you own an Xbox, *snicker*.
EDIT: but seriously, stability and consistancy are only an issue of configuration. Not a very big deal at all.

I'm posting here mainly in the hope that CCP will actually read this and take what people say here into account (don't flame me.)
I'm in the waiting/hoping for PC crowd. I don't have a current gen console and MUCH prefer shooters on PC. It just seems more natural to me and the PC is my preferred platform.

Here goes!
I own all 3 consoles. But don't stick htis on WII! I would love it to be on both PS3 and the 360, I would still play on PC, and Also prefer shooters on the PC. But Halo 3 Works, thats 360 all the way, it would not be right on PC! As for Dust, Yea I can see it working, I also have and Love Killzone 2 not even started the SP, just play multiplayer all the time. This is proof Console shooters work. I also have unreal 3 on the PC, and that sucks on 360, Keyboard ans mouse support for PS3 version is gr8 tho.
As for Dust 514. Y not have it on PC as well as consoles, that could work yes?
FLAME ME I am ready!

I'm not going to flame you, but I am just going to remind you that CCP publically said that they're specifically targetting Dust at people who dont play EVE. They're not looking to split your playtime between EVE and an FPS. They're looking to bring people who play FPS into the EVE universe.
Dust is CCP's attemtp to enter the console game market. CCP can't tap in to the console market with a PC game. Dust is not a PC game.

FPS on consoles is a waste of time, PC will always beat the crap out of console FPS'ers. Also I don't even have a console and am not about to get one either. Hopefully Dust will come to the PC, so we can play EVE and Dust at the same time

No, all you've seen is an XBox controller. You realize that MS provides free software to use one on a PC with the USB charging cable, right? And secondly if I was demoing alpha software on a console I wouldn't waste time making it show worthy on more than one platform.
Okay fair enough, didn't know that.

Then do what PC users do best. Get involved with your hobby and shape it the way you want. My PC is hooked up to a 50" 1080P TV and when I play the computer, I sit back in a nice large chair and almost feel like I'm gaming in a cinema.

On a side note, if avatar-based gameplay is being introduced in to EVE via Incarna, I'd far, far prefer it to evolve in to something more like System Shock than than the Haloesque style gameplay we saw demo'd for Dust.
In fact: CCP, just steal System Shock and put that stuff straight in to the first ambulation expansion only with your fancy new engine. SS rocked and the dark, paranoid style would suit the EVE universe really well.

I would love for Dust 514 to succeed, and I'm hopeful it does, but I'm wary of CCP's ability to counter the hacking that will undoubtedly occur (on PC).
- This is CCP's first attempt at FPS
- The feeling of disparity caused by hacking would be greater in an MMO than an FPS
- It sounds like the game will be more pvp focused than pve, which, again, means that hacking more directly affects you
I wonder if NOT being a runaway success could be the best thing for the game. Then it might attract less people to develop hacks for it. Then again, its being developed with the UT engine, and I believe there are already several UT hacks in existence. Also, the fact that it will be released for consoles may ensure that degree of success.

a big fail is coming, its going to console so no leverage off current player base crowded fps console market place no connection to existing eve player base 400000 PC based eve playes wont be able to play unless u own a old console. End outcome fail fail fail from a busienss case Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

I don't give a crap who plays this console game... As long as they can't talk in our channels, I'll be happy.
The last thing we need interacting with this game are a bunch of 13 year old kids who think headshots are the epitome of video gaming tactical skill.

I would probably consider playing this if it was on PC. Really though, I don't think this game will be anything revolutionary that would want to make me buy it for a console. I do have a 360, BUT it only gets used for my Netflix instant queue(gotta love streaming movies to the TV).
We shall see in the end though how I make up my mind. I could very well change it once I give it a try.

Liked Planetside enough that I'll give DUST a go. Still do 10+ hours of TF2 a week after four years so if CCP can make a halfway decent FPS to start and keep it lively with updates I don't see the problem. Would love to have KB & mouse supported but it's not a deal breaker.

Every time I see an FPS video on Youtube or whatever, I can't for the life of me understand the appeal.
Maybe its because I was too close to the real thing in the military, and subconsciously cannot accept it as a 'game'.
No, I won't be playing Dust, but maybe the Ninja Salvagers will migrate, as it seems to be their style.....

DUST 514 could be something great as it could be just one more of the group (as could be a total failure).
The secret of making it worthy of paying the micro-transactions things and keep itself in ground its by giving the player cools reward.
If you think in EVE, the rewards seems to be the community rewards, the battle rewards and the persistence rewards.
Community Reward: Its the sensation of accomplishing things with other people and when you know people and meet new people. In EVE happens when you do team operations and you live and make experiences around people and you follow a goal as a group. Also counts here when you join a corp and start talking **** and becoming a team of friends.
Battle Reward: Its the sensation when your effort and preparation pays off in someone else face. Like when you win a football game, when you win in any competition, or even when you not make it to first place but you make it around 3rd or 4rd place or just ahead of somebody you know. In EVE happens in any PvP, in wardecs and in occasional low-null sec tours.
Persistence Reward: Its the sensation when you continuing persistence around something you can't (or haven't) accomplish or something you need to get finally pays off, giving you a physical reward (not sex) that you can use for getting better things or experience. In EVE happens when you run missions to get isk, when you mine belts or make trades, or when you visit the EVE gate, explore a WH for first time and find stuff.
All this kinds of rewards make the player keep playing a game and almost all of them get inter-crossed in all kinds of situations in EVE, if I lack something or u don't understand: I DON'T CARE. My main language inst English.
Now Dust 514 really needs to have all this kinds of rewards, so CCP must focus in facilitating them to the player. In First Person Shooters the Battle-Rewards dont need explanation. The Persistence Rewards in FPS exists around the Achievements system and points systems. THE COMMUNITY rewards I have seen in FPS are actually rare but I have experienced it in Counter-Strike Source when I played most of my time in one or two servers and I talked with people and most of us started to knew each other, talked with each other in the chat or voice but we knew who were which one and how good he played. So if Dust 514 wants to actually be a bang it needs to facilitate the community rewards arround people.
NEED TO EAT. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND I DONT CARE. IF YOU CAN MAKE THIS EXPLAINABLE OR BETTER FEEL FREE.
