Had just finished scouting out a hostile system in my stupidly fast Nanocane. I jump one system out of said system towards my home, alas, to find myself in a Sabre's interdiction bubble, with a few other camping ships. Unpanicking, I activate my MWD and calmly go full speed out of the bubble. My Hurricane has no warp core stabilizers, as it was fit for combat.
In a few seconds, I'm out of the bubble, so I align for warp, however, the Sabre is going full speed towards me. Just a few seconds before I warp, I get the "soandso (Sabre) has started trying to warp scramble you!" Message. I expected to grind to a halt and fail to warp, thinking I'd need to fight my way out, but suddenly, I warp anyway. How did that happen?
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know... I'm not complaining, just curious

Is that how it works? I was under the impression that, even if he did go out of range, when he first activates his disruptor, it would cancel my warp and make me re-warp.

Edited by: Shadowy Assistant on 22/02/2010 03:55:59 Just a guess here, but maybe it's the order in which effects are applied:
1) You are aligned and at 50% max speed, MWD on 2) Sabre activates scrambler module. 3) MWD deactivates, putting your speed over 100%, sending you into warp. 4) Scramble points are applied - but you're already in warp from #3.

I turned off my MWD before the Sabre scrambled me, to warp faster. It didn't work though, I warped at normal speed. Also, now I recall that one of the recent patches stopped MWD-insta-warping, or something like that..

Was there any reason to suspect that lag might have caused your warp to actually happen before the warp scrambling bit?
The Sabre's client might have reported that he'd tried warp scrambling, but the server believed he was out of range?

I guess that's a possibility. It wasn't the laggiest of situations though - just about 4 people in local, and 3 on grid.

^^ What he said. And... why does it matter?

There was no one in ECM range of the Sabre other than me, and I had no ECM fitted... Besides, even if that was the case, wouldn't the initial warp scramble stop my warp?

Because I stopped playing back in late summer of 2008 and recently came back about 2 months ago. So, I can't think of anything below 3 km/s as "fast", let alone "stupidly fast". ----- 'In Eve, as in real life, if you are bored it's your own fault.' |

Ah, ok. Well, for a battlecruiser, it is now.

It was probably time gap/latency issue. I notice that once in awhile.

Yeah, but I still got the "you are being warp scrambled" message BEFORE warping.
Anyhow, like Joe said, it was probably some lag issue.

This actually happened to me a year ago in a drake. An abbadon or a palladin, i dont remember which, jumped a shuttle in on our gate camp, we knew it was bait but took it anyway and the fight was on. He killed 2 out of 4 of us, and the nighthawk pilot who was tanking reported he was getting ready to go. Knew the amarr pilot had a scrammer so i started warping right then.
Got the message "warp drive active" but was still sitting there , you know how it usually works. He kills my friend and I see the message "is trying to warp scramble you" but I still warped out a few moments later. He even accused me in local of having wcs's but I did not.
I think its a lag issue personally. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

another, unlikely, but if it is true, hilarious, explanation
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Civilian_Warp_Disruptor
use that on someone, they get the message they're being scrambled, and icon on overview, but other than that, it does nothing.
Good for a laugh though
