I was looking through some old editions of my favourite magazines this week, and something struck me.
Lady Catiz Tash-Murkon always seemed more stylishly made up than Lady Jamyl Sarum did. Lady Catiz always seemed to be the picture of elegance and charm, whereas Lady Jamyl, although she was immaculately turned out, as any Heiress would be, never seemed quite as stylish.
Of course, now that she is the Empress, she looks absolutley fabulous, but it is interesting to look back.

Tell me about it, I live in the Federation...
Some Amarrian outfits are quite nice also, but perhaps that's just the fact I like somewhat more modest clothing talking...

Edited by: Hooch Flux on 17/02/2010 17:21:49 Just curious, does the Empress set fashion trends, or does it follow more along the lines of fads throughout Holder society? Or is it something that runs throughout the general population?
Just wondered since you kinda brought it up in a roundabout way.

Naturally, everyone would watch how the Empress does things, it shapes many trends. However, she is not in public all the time, and so other things shape trends.
Beyond that, it all depends on the circles you move in, what's fashionable for Amarr pilots of Holder descent in Kador is different to what's in vogue amongst non-pilot Holders in Kor-Azor.
Planetary climates of course will affect things as well.
If the Empress wears a light, simple gown to a visit of a warm place, then many clothiers will offer similar garments. Other people will choose different outfits for the same climate, for a variety of reasons.

Catiz is Udorian, Jamyl is Amarr.
Of course she'll look different.

This only means that the Empress has always been concerned with more important things than the latest fad. Such a revelation is unsurprising, to say the least.

Lady Catiz may have the appearance of being stylish, considering the amount of money she can throw at any fashion situation. However, this can never disguise her deficiencies in class, as anyone with any breeding will be able to discern. An Udorian, even in the finest gold and lace, is still an Udorian, and always will be..... despite whatever societal positions they purchase outright.

I actually own a suit made for me by an Udorian designer who lives and works in the Tash-Murkon Prime system. He seemed to relish the challenge of blending the Imperial aesthetic with the requirements of a suit appropriate for a Caldari boardroom.
It's easily the finest suit I own, worn on special occasions only.

I'm inclined to agree to a spesific degree, not sure that is much of a revelation to anyone though.
However I'll stick to Intaki designs nearly any day. Heck, many Intaki in colder climates have even incorporated the design ideas of others into the clothes they wear, while stil keeping it distinct. After all, the things I'm wearing right now won't hold on any cold planet... ------------------------------------- Alexander Kamy· Allisieer - CO-founder, NOVAF |

Lady Catiz may not be blessed with the pure blood of Amarr, but she is a very intelligent, and attractive woman, who puts her thoughts and concerns with what is best for Amarr. When the royal heirs met to discuss whether or not declare support to Jamyl Sarum reclaiming the throne, Catiz was the first to declare her support, speaking out against Yonis' objections, she said "She is beloved by the people, and not just in her own House. Amarrians everywhere see her return as the fulfillment of a prophecy."
She clearly has good judgment. And a good fashion sense. Claiming that she is only interested in trend setting is ignorant. ---

After an informal polling of my crew, I can say that the majority prefer the Jamyl pin-up posters in engineering over the Catiz pin-up posters in tactical.
However, the Lady Catiz faction, though smaller in number, are strongly opinionated on the subject.

Unless someone among my officers or crew has lead an amazing secret life and failed to share what must be great stories, Im going to assume that yes, they are manipulations...
Still, a necessary part of art appreciation is to lose yourself and enjoy the illusion...

Rule 34.D to be precise. As for fashion...well...after living in the Republic for so long, I am quite convinced that anything thatt does not involve duct tape is good fashion, scrap metal is also a no-no, but less of an issue in Matari clothing (I stress less...).

Edited by: Stitcher on 22/02/2010 14:42:54 I'm a doctor, pilot. I've seen enough people naked in my time to know that what's "underneath" usually requires a LOT of improvements, even if the improvements don't consist of clothing.
Nudity is not inherently sexual, just ask any naturist, or anyone who's used to using public showers. What's concealed and artfully hinted at is usually much more alluring than the reality.
If you mean beauty underneath THAT, however - beauty of the mind and soul - then I'm in full agreement with you. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |
