Edited by: iGuevara on 09/01/2010 13:20:12 So I'm probing in 0.0 and my system-wide probes find me 10+ Signatures. Obviously this is a relatively large amount of signatures within one system, but it happens none the less. Is there anyway to quickly determine what site you are probing? For example you're searching for gravimetric or radar sites. Are they harder to probe for example?
If so, you could conclude that if you're getting a lower % signature strength at 8 AU range probes than you do with "other" sites you could state that this is either a radar/gravi? Or does that theory not work?
Tnx

You cant determine it based on the signature strength because this relies both on placement of the probes etc. and there are easy to scan radar sites and harder ones.. goes for the other categories too. and its not a garantuee that the harder to scan ones are more valuable etc either.. although mostly goes for unknown sites.. rated DED Etc.
What you should do is scan to 30-35% check the group.. of its irrelevant to you.. write down the signature ID and avoid scanning it further.
Although this is hardly ever relevant for me.. i tend to hand down to signatures i dont use myself to corp mates.. got a friend that loves to take care of anomalies and lower end signatures in his ishtar
Other people that dont mind doing drone sites.
I do the radar/mag sites myself.. and when i find bigger rated plexes or good ones i get a group going from corp, usually tank them myself. but bring some of them along for dps etc.
And gravimetric site goes to corp aslong.. anyone who fancies mining :p
So i generally tend to scan everything to 100% because its useful to someone atleast if not to me :p

If you scan a lot it would be prudent to traing for Deep Space probes. There scan strength fall off is much less than core probes and you can find the type of the sig much faster.

You can at least with deep space probes. Sites of the same type will always have the same base signal strength.

The Scan strengh of a probe dont varie that much. Yes the Strengh is higher at the middle and lower at the outer range, but thats maybe 10-20% different.
So the resulting Signal Strengh of the Signatures IS a good way to filter "good" and "not so good" sites. When you are geting a result like: Signature 23% Signature 21% Signature 5% Signature 0.9% (these percent numbers change with your skills and equipment, so these numbers arn't fixed)
So you can say these 0.9% is a valueable Signature, maybe a 10/10 or a tough Magneto/Radar. The 5% maybe can be a 8/10 ,xyz Headquarter/Militaer Complex , Radar, Magento or Large Gravi. After a while you are geting a feeling about Signature strengh and what it can maybe be.
Quote: For example you're searching for gravimetric or radar sites. Are they harder to probe for example?
But you never can say what type of signature you scan down, until you got it.

Edited by: Babelle on 11/01/2010 00:53:05 25% and you get the Type [unknown, mag, rad, lad, grav etc] Somewhere over 75% and you get the specific Site Name.
Use 'Ignore' on ones you are not interested in pinning down :)

Being a returning player after about a year off this is the one thing that annoys me about the new probing system. Before, I could just send out a probe to find out exactly what kind of sites were in a system. While it may take me forever to actually find the site, I wouldn't waste my time scanning down 10 sites only to find out that none of them are the kind I was interested in. |

P.S This scanning system is a lot easier than the old, you had to carry a massive amount of different strength probes and then wait a few minutes for them to finish scanning

I have to admit that I didn't really mind the old system... although I suppose that is mostly because of laziness: I have a whole lot of bookmarks, (that for some reason aren't in the folders I originally had them in), that I need to delete.
Is training Astrometrics V really worth it?

well, i do fine with the skill at 4.you have to do the following trick . leave 1 probe at 8 or 16au ,so that it covers both dots , put 3 probes to each of those red dots , keep going lower and lower with the 3 probes .you will still be probing both these sites up to 75% .Once you are down to 0.5 Au , you can get the 8au probe down to 0.5 au and find the site normally

It is called exploring and it's done in good way . It woudn't be interesting to explore, scan without that, you search and you find
