I know the "drug running" or "smuggling" profession in EVE is not entirely fleshed out or an actual solid working play style, But I would like to dabble in it a bit.
What exactly does drug smuggling in EVE require? Is it just glorified trading except with the risk of a fine? Does anyone have any experience making money off of this activity?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

your right..smuggling really its a proffession in Eve (or not that i can see) so either, it doesnt exist, or every smuggler is extremely good at their job
It could involve Snake Implants (lowering the chances of you getting caught) i think
Mainly this just sounds like hauling, but with "illegal" items, to be honest....only random items (firearms etc) are illegal, and boosters i think are ready available so i cant see a market for "Drug Running" or "Smuggling"
Maybe low-sec cloacked transport services is the next best thing?? at least giving the image of a smuggler, thats if you want to role-play it though, enjoy

Largest known drug smuggling run in history
Was in TNT Alliance when we took the contract where we nailed every customs ship in system to stop them scanning the freighters full of drugs.

Edited by: ctttttttt on 07/01/2010 06:26:41 pro tip: if you get caught with drugs warp to the your out gate click no and jump fast. Sometimes you might get hit with a 1 mill isk fine...
edit: i should clarify. After clicking no and jumping into the next system your ship will not be destroyed or effected at all. Just repeat the process and go on your merry way. Like i said thought you might get hit with a minimal fine.
Make sure your on the out gate before you click no. I cant assure you that you can click no then warp i haven't tested yet.
hope this helps

Uh... thanks...
Still wondering if this is a viable play style like exploring, mission running, mining etc etc... Anyone make an EVE-Living off of this?

I think that question can be easily answered by checking the market on the boosters. Check the volume for sale vrs amount sold and you will have your answer.

Someone else mentioned it, but I think your best bet would be to be an arms smuggler with a cloaked transport runner. Move goods from high sec into markets of low sec that you can exploit. beating the occasional gate camp with millions in your hold is a thrill like no other.
Its not easy to do, but you can find particular buy orders that have huge markups that you can capitalize on. Maybe you can even socialize with some pirate alliances/crews and strike up a deal with em on certain goods/supplies on regular basis, sprinkle some boosters on top for em every now and then and you are basically a drug runner then too. This can be quite lucrative, and would be a great way to make money while going for a freighter or something too for a more long term goal.

I agree. I have looked into it myself. Smuggling drugs, contraband, etc. seems like a waste of time and unproductive. However while in a 0.0 corp, for a short time, I noticed that Drakes were selling for double the price of what the cost in Umokka at the NPC station I was based out of in low sec. I considered several times flying unfit Drakes out to the station and blowing up my POD to get back. I calculated 20 million a pop. However I was too much of a noob and deemed it too risky. I know now corp members were flying them in on jump freighters and making a killing. I believe the smaller ships had even a larger margin.
