About 4 years ago, I posted here about the first Regeration of the new doctor who. Tonight we had the second.
David Tennant is gone, Matt Smith is the Doctor number 11.

And the show will be all the poorer for it. The new graphics could be interesting.

it's kind of sad that's so very likely that fans will, in the future, wish that the series stopped at this point.
just like fans of starwars wish the prequels had never been made... or that the fifth season of Babylon 5 (not to mention Crusade)... or aliens 3+ ...

I know what you mean. Fortunately, no one has made a sequel to Highlander, so there is some hope for humanity.

Am I the only one to remark the actor playing the 11th Doctor is... how should I put it mildly... ugly ? I suppose I shouldn't really care how he looks, but considering the last two have been actually rather handsome, it's a bit of a let-down. Sure, he probably has talent and whatnot, but couldn't they find somebody else with roughly the same talent that was a bit less offensive to the eye ?

Dr Who is horrible enough, now it will get worse.
Hopefully fans will start agreeing with me that british sci fi is horrible and cheesy.

/me hugs my BD BSG collection that I got for christmas.
I liked some Dr Whos episodes but the majority were really really cheesy crap.
The upshot of the change in Doctor is that Russell T Davies is leaving also, leaving Steven Moffat to replace him as head writer and executive producer. Most of the good ones where written by him, although he did write some crap ones I think they were interferred with.

This.
Also, I can't be the only one that thinks doctor who has become just a tad too young. If the previous Dr Who watching generations were shown this young trendy doctor, they'd kill themselves. -omg-

Remark publicly, yes. Privately, no. My 8 year old cousins say he looks like an Alien, or that Rocky fella from that film.

There was a silly rumor floating about that the 11th was going to be Richard Hammond, In hindsight I think he would have made an excellent Doctor. -------------------------------------------

I heard that one of the guys in the running was the alliance agent from Serenity. He would have made a fantastic Doc. ____________________

Before the new show and the movie, none of the Doctors were particularly handsome. Most of them looked quite strange.
I have about as much faith in Matt Smith as I had in Tennant when his run started. What's more important however, is that RTD is finally off the show and the brilliant Moffat is now free to take the show from nonsense to magnificence. -----

Wile that's true about RTD, if Moffet is writing every episode is his quality of writing going to go down, lets hope not.
On Tennant, we new he was quite a good actor from Casanova, and if you had managed to have seen some of his theatre work, you would have known he was going to be good. I suppose maybe the Doctors have to have that Star Trek movie streak, all the Even Doctors good, Odds not as good.
I think James May or Alan Davies would make a much better Doctor than Richard Hammond.

To be honest, I think they missed a trick a while back.
Derek Jacobi would still make a perfect Dr Who, even if they did cast him as the re-appearing Master before regeneration into John Simm.
Dr Who cheesy? You don't say. Stuffit; we like it like that. ___________________________________________________ The game will never be over, because we're keeping the meme alive. |

someone help me i feel so lost.
The last Dr Who i saw was with all the stolen planets. I saw that 2-parter through to its conclusion (i think, i don't remember a regeneration at the end)
I did download the Christmas special with the 'other' Doctor in london.
What am I missing? (without too much spoilers plz). What do i need to go download to get me up to speed here?

Who fans always get disappointed when there's a new doctor. Some recognise that it really doesn't matter since the last decent one was Tom Baker and everyone since is a pale imitation, some take leave of their senses and pretend that things went downhill after a more recent doctor who was substandard due to not being Tom Baker but they don't care, others have no taste and just carry on enjoying the show even though they've got yet another doctor who is not Tom Baker.

More important than David Tennant leaving is the fact that Russell T Davies has now left as producer, with Steven Moffat replacing him.
That's a good sign for the future.

edit: so w/ some googlefu i'm guessing i need to see -planet of the dead -waters of mars -dreamland -the end of time (<- this is where he regenerates?)
correct?
Correct, tho you may not need dreamland that was just a webisode cartoon thing. If you are really geeky you could check out the Sarah Jane Adventure where he appears, which is kind of a mini doctor who episode. ----------------------------------- New Eden Chronicles: Prime, Fanfest 2010 |

You say that like it's a choice. Everyone prefers their first Doctor and feels that the series has gone to **** when he regenerates. I grew up watching Tom Baker, there we go.

I'm ashamed to admit that I never watched the old Doctor Who... my first doc was Eccleston, and I remember getting rather upset when he regenerated.. but as it happened, I didn't get to see season 2 until two years later.
... now I consider Tennant 'my' doctor.
