I found a great deal from newegg on a notebook PC that would run EvE like a champ. Just picked one up myself and wanted to let other eve players know about the deal they have going. Def worth a look if you play eve on a notebook and are thinking about upgrading soon.
Toshiba Satellite A505 @ Newegg.com
Only thing I don't like about it is the 5400rpm HDD. But just replace with a 7200rpm when the orig one goes out eventually. Either way even w/ 5400rpm drive it will run eve on highest settings w/ no stutter.

Why bother with dual cores when you can get quads?
If you want smaller, go for a netbook. Ion makes it doable.

Because clock for clock, a core2 duo will SMOKE a core2 quad on a game like eve. Google it. |

Edited by: Mira O''karr on 01/01/2010 08:23:03 better as it runs eve for 5 hours flat on battery. 12 hours when just forum posting but that is playing eve aswell, right?:D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220602&Tpk=ul80vt
50 bucks more though.

Well that depends now... if your going to be doing something that requires/wants to use the CPU (folding@home was the first thing to come to mind) then sure.
But on my laptop it downclocks to 768mhz while playing EVE. I do notice a bit fps loss when it goes that low but at 1.2ghz I get full 60 fps.
Dual core 1.3ghz. Thats pretty bad.

not really. i have been playing TF2 and MW2 on medium settings with 50fps average. eve runs equally flawless.
cpu is rarely the bottleneck with games on laptops. its the graphics.

Fair enough. Maybe things have changed, but i remember how bad it was playing eve on a single core 1.8ghz cpu. I cannot imagine how the experience would be with lower. *Shrug*

Edited by: Jabezhane on 02/01/2010 11:47:28 I got myself a Dell Inspiron 13z a few weeks ago. It has the Intel CULV 1.3GHZ dual core cpu, 7200rpm HDD, 4GB ram and a Nvidia 512MB Geforce 105M for graphics.
Plays Eve superbly. Can get 40-60FPS at around mid settings with plenty going on on screen. Solid 60fps at low.
The CULV 1.3Ghz dual core is actually as fast as the PentiumD 2.8Ghz so can play Eve no sweat.

why you want to replace the hd with a 7200?? if speed you want why not upgrade to a SSD.... Jack of all trades, master of none...

Gonna have to agree here. In real world terms outside of lab testing the difference between a 5400RPM and 7200RPM is negligible for the everyday user.
Also, for the price you've paid for that laptop, shopping around could have gotten you a better deal for the same price tag.

Trinity moved most of EVE's CPU load to the GPU. So yes, things have changed.
@OP: not fond of the gt230m, 'fraid it will show its age way too soon.
