So I heard at one point the basilisk was the FOTM and now the shimmy is the FOTM. Which of the 2 support cruisers is better for a gang? Is it the shimmy because of the tracking link bonuses to bigger ships? your thoughts please :)

scimitar is faster and doesnt need a cap buddy to permarun 4 large transfers.
the only time i've ever heard of tracking links on a scimi is when its used to boost an alt in missions

I think that fitting is the definition of fail tank

Scimitar is much more useful fielding 3 large shield transfers and a SOLID tank. A ship very hard to kill. Is one of the few ships that can work with AB only instead of MWD (since it can reach 900ms with AB and is tiny tiny tiny).

You can fit an mwd on it pretty easily and still perma run 3 reps + mwd. I can see why you'd want to try to sig tank but an afterburner is just asking to get killed.
90% of the fights you get in 0.0 as a roaming gangs are at gates and that usually means jumping into an enemy fleet. AB in this situation is going to get you killed. What I usually do in my scimi is jump through together with all the fleet group decloak and mwd out of the enenmy bubble and keep mwding till I'm 60 km away from friendly ships (puts me about 100-140 km from hostiles), can rep things on my side and almost nothing on the enemies side can hit me. Keep the the MWD off once you get to range and sig is no prob. With an AB fit your logistics ship is just going to get tackled and die when you jump in since it's going to be slower then every single mwd fitted ship (except RR BS's and for RR gang Gaurdian > scimi). Getting tackled in a scimitar is something you don't want happening. If your ship does get tackled then you are flying it wrong.
If the enemy is jumping into your fleet then AB is still not relevant as you will be orbiting the gate so you can jump out and back in if the hostiles start shooting you (no 1 reason why you never agress anyone in a logistics ship). ~~~

The general rule of thumb is that the Scimitar is designed to run with a roaming gang as it can be fit to be cap stable while running 3 reppers and a tank. It can comfortably sit in the roaming gang, working independently as the only repper, or working in pairs using their greater mobility to move around the battlefield and not have to rely on cap transfer from a buddy. Up until the Dominion patch the tracking link bonus was a little specialised (as mentioned above it was mainly to boost mission runners with your alt), but I have seen a few PVP fits recently that make use of the tracking link bonus for increased falloff.
The Basilisk, on the other hand, is seen more as a static fleet repper and is meant to work in pairs or greater. The cap transfer of the Basilisks can be put onto each other to keep each other cap stable while running up to 6 reppers to keep a bigger fleet alive against higher DPS you would get against another large fleet.
The armour reppers are similar - the Oneiros being the solo repper and the Guardian for large armour repping fleets.

If you wanna rep ppl use the basilisk
If you wanna go fast use the scimi
[Basilisk, New Setup 1] Reactor Control Unit II Power Diagnostic System II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II ECCM - Gravimetric II 10MN Afterburner II
Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
This is the sorta setup I usually use for my basilisk it will change slightly based on what equipment is available for it but the main goal is to put out as much reps as possible.
It has what I like to call a hope tank, aka I really hope they don't target me. It's a weakness of this setup but with some skill it will work often enough to make it useable. Also as I've often found myself the only logistics in gang so I prefer a logistics aimed as if it was the only logistics in gang and don't build my setup in the hope that my allies will be able to save when I'm called primary.
Also I'm sure some EFT warrior has done some calculations in his head or plugged into EFT cause he can't do the calculations in his head anymore and worked out that this setup isn't cap stable. In gang pvp a logistics will not have all of his reppers running at once nor should he so making your setup cap stable is overkill. Only time you are flying a logistics that will need to be fully cap stable is pos reps or missioning in both those cases I'd use a different setup. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

my AB scimmy has 2 years is the ship I use most by far and never died....
People need to remember that low sig radius also affects how fast you are locked. Tacklers tend to grab the first thing they get a lock that is in range. Despite the naysayers.. my scimitar NEVER ever faced any REAL danger in 2 years, was never tackled by anythign I didn 't want to tackle me (on that last case as bait.. you would get surpised as you have things liuke abaddon pilots that think they can tackle and hit an scimitar at 1 km distance....)
People overestimate the importance of MWD. THe more I play eve the less i think its so required and more that it can be replaced in certain scenarios for brains.

I've lost 2 scimi's whole time I've been flying them once because of fail fit and once because of AB.

Some interesting fits for the Basilisks going on here. This may prove more useful in an actual combat situation.
As others have said you do need another Basilisk for it to work properly, otherwise just take a scimitar.
The armor bots are for putting on your other basilisk during the fight to combat any accumulated bleed through and to rep others after engagements.
