At least not the kind of skills that go on your toon. Here's the challange I gave myself: Take a brand new starting character and park in Jita. No skill training allowed. No flying allowed (I think I'll make a single exception to place jump clones when I get there). Do not borrow money from alts. Check in no more than three times per day. Make 1bil ISK through fair means or foul. Keep track of the ensuing hilarity in a podlog.
TL;DR - Day 1 results, 80 ISK or so in wallet; 4 buy orders of total value 7,875

If you're any good at writing, the blog might be interesting, though.

the interesting part is your time frame though. Is it a year or two? or a month or two? make it real interesting and say a week perhaps? :)

If you need more than two months you can consider it a failure and move on.

This is too true, if you know what you're doing you can make a couple hundred million every two days with something like 20m seed capital.
edit: ****, 5 orders? yeah, that puts a crimp on things. Since you can't make money while AFK you're going to hvae to work the **** out of those orders.

the no training of skills part will ruin you simply because traders with 5orders can not compare to those with 100+ other people will make profit 20times faster then you.Your goal is doable only with insane amount of no lifing. knowledge is power |

Yeah, its going to take longer. I get that. This isn't a serious "become rich in a month and retire on share dividends" project. Its more of an exercise to see what's possible. The number of orders is a big slowdown, but so is not being able to get margin trading. Its sort of like PVPing in a newb ship. Its possible to do it and even succeed but its not a primary occupation.

With only 5 orders and 1 contract slot (?) it will take a long time to make 1B. Especially if you are only going to check orders 3 times a day. ---

Hmm...30M in seed, it could be done with time assuming you could jump the product out of JITA.

There's a story about a Greek orator, Cicero if memory served, who taught himself the art of oratory with a handful of pebbles in his mouth. The point of this was that by learning to be as good as everyone else despite a severe handicap, he would be that much better with the stones removed. Same concept.

The story is correct, but the orator was Demostene, first stutterer, then, removed stone, the best greek orator. Thank for remembered us a great story

Hehe.. this reminds me of my own similar project :)
Except i did it in world of warcraft.. levelled an alt to lvl 10 on a new server and placed him near the auction house.. only had ~10 silver and started trading :P .. except at that time i was already making 1000g a week off AH with my main :p
only took me a 1+ week to get to 300g.. then i stopped messing about with the alt :P .. was good fun tho.
Been waiting to try it in Eve aswell.. except theres A LOT more competition here. player driven market.. 1 big server.. etc.
So certainly next level stuff compared to doing it on the WoW auction house :p

Just for reference - With a basic mining frigate and starting skills you can make 4-5000 isk per minute, 23/7 that works out to 4 months.

Except that I like to get more than 1 hour a day of sleep. Running a newb ship on full time mining would require some sort of macro, which is TOD violating. I'll stick to doing no more than 1 hour or so a day of trade.

Good luck but the Market on WoW is a joke compared to this, there are people on there stupid enough to sell materials for around half the price the products they can make, even if they have the skills to do so (might sound normal but it takes 30 seconds to make them not the hours it does in EVE). I got bored with the amount of profit I could make, that's why I'm here.
I had a friend who was an auction house master who died in the EVE market so be careful. _________________________________________________

I don't like WoW, I just want to point out as apposed to internet spaceships, and mining? They're just as bad as each other only EVE is ALOT harder. _________________________________________________
