i saw many fits with AB but in most movies on youtube are Tengus at zero speed and they can handle all of incomming damage...... so is really an AB needed?

0 Speed isnt good for many reasons, i guess .... Afterburner should be ok, for non pvp action. In PvP action you should fit Microwarpdrive. Cause even a T3 cruiser can be blown up by a small gang.

the guys sitting still probably have a medium dead space booster fitted. a single small booster set up needs to move to negate a portion of the incomming damage.

AB will increase your effective tank by 4-5 times, so yeah, it is more than worth it.
most youtube tengu vids are just showing off ridiculous tanks and have pretty much no damage stuff fitted which is why they just stand still.

well that vid is showing a tengu tanking against serpentis BS's that are orbiting it from pretty far away. So it is tanking things that have trouble hitting it anyway and things that it already has good resists too.
If you want to tank a room like Smash the supplier though there is no way that you can just sit still, you will need the AB.
Not to mention that by having an AB your tank will be 4-5 times bigger, meaning you don't have to waste as many other mods on making your tank good.

Damage control is not needed and target painter is redundant. My fit as follows:
[Tengu, Mission] Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System
Corelum C-Type 10MN Afterburner Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier II Shield Boost Amplifier II Dread Guristas Photon Scattering Field Invulnerability Field II
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst
AB is maybe not needed but very helpful, but your tank will still fry on missions like Stop the Thief if you get webbed. It's a good habit to not stand still in combat at all. Hint: dropping a can and orbiting it at 400m/s is a lot better than not moving. This permaruns and with good skills can fit a Gistum medium booster and permarun that as well (needs launcher rigging 4 to afford the CPU though, and I'm not sure it'd be worth the price tag for it as it's overkill).
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. EVE has devs that care about sound? (Ha ha ha! Gotcha. It actually doesn't!) |

Replace CPU Efficiency Gate with Dissolution Sequencer -- Everything still fits quite easily, same slot layout, faster lock times, less likely to be jammed, and you can lock targets out to your missile's max range.
Also, replace 1 of the Shield Boost Amps with a PWNAGE target painter. Makes for instapops on frigs and dessies, as well as more dps vs cruisers (especially if you want to use the T2 Fury ammo).

A question for ppl who have used HAMs in L4s... i'm wondering what (if any) trouble you have when trying to hit interceptors in missions (angel viper, spider drones etc). What do you use to deal with them and how effective is it?
Does 1 target painter do the trick? Does using 2 TPs make a noticeable difference? Or I see some builds with a target painter and a web, is that the most effective combo?

On that setup you have, if you can swap the small booster for a Corelium or Pithium medium one, you'll never have to worry about tank in a L4 if you use rat-sepcific hardeners (Corelium is a 650 DPS tank with a Corelium C, a Pithium A would be a 1K tank).
You could lose ythe second SBA in that situation as well.

because I like navy bcus, and a gisti b-type small is rather cheap. pithi b-type costs more but isn't that expensive either. You're posting again!? Has it really been 5 mins?

Feel free to throw a AB on there if you want instead a TP, I just like max damage on my missiles is all. This ship is UNPROBEABLE, meaning anyone can try till they are black in the face to probe you down and it won't ever work. You have to be really dumb to get found in this ship while not at a celestial object (station/planet/moon/etc)

all it takes in one mission with angels in them target painting you to about 200 sig radius and you are dead!

Good point, tengu is an excellent ship but not versus huge numbers of Angel ships. With out an excellent tank and HP count they will target paint you to dead.

No, it tanks angels quite nicely even when painted to hell. They still do mostly explosive and have 8km optimals or whatever, so there's no reason it wouldn't be able to.
They're talking about the sig radius making it easier to probe down.

The ships you mentioned can be killed easily by a CruiseCNR w/ 1 TP. HAMs are definitely no problem.
*edit* I think its possibly that the TP+web is even more effective, but the very short range of a web makes it highly situational, especially for PvE.

Ah good to know, thx for the reply. At least I can rest easy knowing that i'll be fine with just the one TP. I'm planning on using a HAM legion for lvl 4s which means I already have short range (~15km), but it doesn't bother me at all considering it only takes a few seconds to get in range. This means I may go for the TP + web combo since I too would think that it would be the most effective combo. Webs also have a short activation cycle which is nice, but I also could try 2 TPs so I can cancel one of em early when a target is almost down and put it in the next one.

Requires a CR4 or CR8 implant in slot 6.
