I was just skimming my fit in EFT trying to optimize it. Right now I've got 3 Focused Medium Pulse IIs doing in EFT 648 volley.
In Eve, I just hit someone for 861. I checked and double checked everything, and it's correct.
It was a well aimed shot in Eve (grouped guns). Why or how did this happen? I don't have full understanding of how EFT calculates things.

I've seen the phrase "critical hit" bandied about quite often, perhaps the "well-aimed" hit is the EVE equivalent. And I doubt EFT accounts for that. There might be a bonus to grouped guns, but i seriously doubt it.

Edited by: Marko Riva on 12/12/2009 20:52:49 AFAIK EFT only calculates for standard hits and not improved ones. The number of quality hits is based on the whole tracking/sig radius calculation, ie if you attack an oversized target for your turrets and/or have lots of tracking you get more and better quality hits.
This is where the "tracking=damage" comes from and is partially the reason why turrets have an edge over missiles in pvp, and why people who KNOW what they are doing rarely fit the biggest guns they can find because the tradeoff (lack of tracking) seldom makes it worth it (I'm looking at you blasters). It's also why smaller ships do so well against bigger ones; they hit for more than you realise.

Actually in Eve, the term for a "critical hit" would be "strikes perfectly, wrecking for."
We call 'em wrecking shots.

Today i hit a ares with 200mm and barrage at 20k in my thrasher! I dont see how this is your first time noticing that formula's and calculations of many things dont tend to work out that way ingame. My falloff with my skills was like 10.5k, i would understand if i hit the ares at 14 - 16 k but 20k was hella funny!
I also have fraps to back that up and the many people in old man star local that read the emo rage today!

Well, a critical was one of those, lol. Makes sense that it'd be "strikes perfectly" though... eh.

"Normal" hits are evenly distributed from 0.5x to 1.5x the gun's nominal damage and you have a 1% chance of a wreaking hit, dealing 3x damage.
So assuming optimal range and no tracking, you get 103% of your "EFT dps" on average and volleys can vary from 50% to 300% of EFT volley damage in extreme cases (if all turrets get a wrecking, very low probability for that though).

You DO know that up to 2x falloff you still do somewhat decent damage right? Apart from that there's always the 1% change to get a wrecking in, regardless of optimal and falloff.

Edited by: Tippia on 12/12/2009 20:57:21 When you shoot at a target with a turret, the game rolls its die, checks it against your hit chance and, if you hit, add 0.5 to the die roll to determine the damage multiplier. This means that, at a hit chance of 1, you can get a damage multiplier of up to 1.5. On top of that, you always have a 1% chance to score a wrecking hit for 3+ damage.

Falloff = hitting a stationary target 50% of the time when the stationary target is (1x Falloff) + Optimal Range away. The gun will hit a stationary target about 2% of the time when it is (2x Falloff) + Optimal Range away.
10k 40-50% 13 - 15k 15% to about 1% chance. I hit a moving target going around 2900m/sec at 20k is that not an impossibility? This is using 200mm autocannons with barrage btw***
