great! I'm loving the new additions, the cache reading expecially saves me tons of clicks, just one thing: could you add cache reading from multiple clients?

Also the option of automatically updating the cache at chosen fixed times.
Could you describe your use case in details? This will help me to determine feature usefulness. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Edited by: Jackomel on 11/07/2010 11:58:05 well, I use 2 clients and I frequently check various market items with both but since the program reads the cache from only one client at the time I'm forced to view all the trading related items on a single client every time.
And since I'm browsing lots of stuff, it would be nice if the program could import them automatically at fixed intervals.

There is no problems when using two instances of EVE client launched from the same location - both client's cache will be read.
Using EVE instances from different folders is no casual use case, so feature added to plan with low priority.
Autoload cannot be made at this moment. Use Ctrl+I shortcut for quick market import. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Thanks again! The cache reader is awesome.
btw. Are you planning to add multiple favourite folders? I would really like that.
for example:
most profitable items t2 stuff stuff I sell in 0.0 region minerals
and so on...

Сould you explain your idea in details? Should it be a graph or some kind of filter for table data for journal/transactions? Or just folders in favorites tab in market browser? (such feature already planned).

Also when shall we expect to have automatic own prices?
Do you mean an automatic price correction in game client? (violates EULA, will not be implemented) Or do you mean an automatic self costs for items? (yes, planned)

I would prefer more tabs instead just of folders in favourites tab. Also it should be so that one item can be member of many tabs.
Tab names should be also configrable ofc.
So for example there would be one tab for items that are most profitable. And one tab for items I sell in my favourite location. and so on.
I think this would be better solution than folders in favourites tab.
I mean automatic self costs ofc. My post was a bit confusing but I blame alchohol... hehe
How do you plan implementing that self cost? Mean of all buy transactions for each item? or perhaps selectable like calculating it from last 25/50/100/10m units bought or from transactions during last 5/10/354354 days etc.
Also the difference in between current (short time) and all time (months/year/forever) self cost.
Well any idea how 'soon' can we expect to have that favourite tab thing and with what of features/stuff are you currently working?

edit: isk sent
I'm going to implement folders instead of tabs because it should be like in game. It will allow to do the same lists for quick market export in EVE and Mentat.
But your idea about "statistical favorites" is interesting. I'll think about.
Self costs will be very flexible: fixed, based on sell/buy orders within specified time interval, based on market data at specific location, etc. But I cannot give to you any implementation time estimations :(

This tool is unsafe to use unless we the community have a chance to look it over; And interacting with *any* of the eve online client files is against the EULA as I understand it, so I dont understand how you can say this application is "safe" when it can get your account banned if the eve client tries to look in a file and cant because your application already has it locked or has an open reference that it mistakenly or not detects as hacking. - John'eh

If it's just reading the cache and not modifying it CCP has said already that that is ok and there's no EULA problems. I would like to see this made open source as well. I'd also like all Eve 3rd party software developers to remember that Eve does run on OSes other than Windows like OSX and Linux and cutting yourself off from 10% of the player base or more IMHO is just a bad idea. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. There are no security issues found since the first EVE Mentat version was released. Not recorded any complaints in this field.
Also you are free to use 3rd party security web sites to check this software (VirusTotal.com for instance). Also anybody can use advanced firewalls and anti-malware software to check application's outgoing internet traffic.
This program doesn't collect or share your private (EVE related or not) information. As a developer I'm not interested in Mentat's unsafety.
Also you can find few popular tools for EVE with no sources available. EFT, for instance.
EVE cache reader (and EVE Mentat in general) doesn't violates EULA as mentioned by Dragonaire.

Funny thing is with panda, it actually gives me a warning unless I update to the most recent version.. so I have to wonder if it was a false posative, or a new false negative. Either way the fact that an AV goes "wait, what?" is sort of creepy.

This is your claim, but it has not been proven yet. I want to do an audit, because I did find some suspicious actions on the part of your application by third party security tools and I want to investigate further.

And I don't use these tools for exactly that reason, especially since tools like EveHQ provide sources and do the exact same thing.

This is not opensource software and source code is my intellectual property. It is impossible to share it to someone. If you can't trust - it is your deal, but I dont see any reason to not trust.

Heh, every time you update EVE Mentat - its binary changes, so AV always should ask you something like "this program starting internet connection. Allow?". It is normal AV workflow, just read your AV messages carefully, and make proper decisions.

So Microsoft, CCP and other software vendors already passed this audit? Could you provide full list? And, for my pleasure, can you put here any answers (Microsoft or Apple will be enough) where you ask for such audit.

Well on the other hand I do see reasons why not to trust it. Your application is heavily obfuscated. Usually you only obfuscate applications if you want to hide something. That MAY be a valid thing if you are holding really important trade secrets or stuff like that. However your application obviously doesn't. Even commercial application vendors (like Microsoft or funnily any of the libraries you used) choose to NOT obfuscate their applications. So why would you? Especially as your application DOES make internet connections to servers other than the CCP servers! _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |

It's obfuscated to add more pain to those people who use EVE Mentat as part of trade bots. It is impossible to decompile and integrate bot-related routines with obfuscation.
EVE Mentat does two types of internet requests: 1) EVE API requests 2) Latest version checks to evementat.com
In the second case it uses simple and non-encrypted http get request. You can sniff those packets easily and see that there are no unusual information transferred.
Also I've planned to turn version checks optional soon (via program options). ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Well it's not "impossible" it's just that the result from decompiling is a little bit harder to understand (but just to understand, NOT to use there it's as simple as if it wasn't obfuscated).
Of course it's your decision. But I don't think that you get much from this obfuscation. If your application really contained that intersting algorithms for trade bots then obfuscation will not help and if it just does what everybody else does for calculating this stuff then it's imho not worth it. BTW: You could also choose to just not obfuscate the network-related stuff/classes/methods. That sureley wouldn't interfere with your "prevent tradebot" thing. _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |

I'm on record as being against "private" code for tools that use the Eve-API because as a guy who has professional experience in the computer security industry I think its incompetent of CCP to allow it. I wont dispute that. And Ta' is right, I have in the past used the wrong methods to ask for source. My bad, my apologies.
But here I am getting "oh sh*t" warnings created by a third party anti virus from an application that heavily obfuscates its code, connects to sites other than sites owned by CCP, will at times encrypt its traffic so it network traffic cant be sniffed, and has no source code available. What the heck am I supposed to think?

I very much doubt your competence in the internet security field, because you are not able to analyze so called "oh **** warnings" generated by your antivirus and in general provide us normal technical description of the problem. Just empty, generalized words and unreasonable demands.
If you are profi in a security, you should know how to check application's leaks and how to prevent connecting to sites other than you allow. And these tasks can be done without sources.
It's better to apply your skills to make a real and independent security check with a detailed technical report. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |
