I thought we were going to see fleet focus fire as a feature in dom* with people being able to pump-up a single ships dps by giving something to them other then what was currently available? Did that get taken out?

Maybe I am wrong or just saw something about other ships in fleet being able to somehow give another ship a boost to dps other then by using conventional means before dom*? I thought they devs were talking about it on youtube videos during alliance tourny and maybe it never made it into dom*, or maybe I could have just imagined the whole thing. Wishful thinking huh? Seriously though maybe someone should look at youtube dev vids?

sorry mate wasn't sure what you meant. No, AFAIK there's no plans for some group enhancement of focussing fire. If anything quite a bit of the player base would like to see a mechanism in place to reduce it. I think I've seen all the fanfest round tables and definitely the pvp one and there was no mention of anything like that in there. --------------------------------------------

There was talk of fleet formations, and there was hints going around that different formations could boost the fleet in different ways.
That it?

i remember reading something on the forum regarding a fleet fire control link, which renders your and your fleets guns at the control of a single ship to provide very focused fire. was a while ago. would be a nice feature to see implemented.

That's just ******ed.
Seriously if you think this would be a nice feature you should die in a fire.

The exact opposite is what's needed to make pvp fights more interesting and engaging.
The problem even now is that focused fire from more than a few ships will reduce any target to dust in a couple of vollies. This removes diversity from your possible fitting choices, and completely removes active tanking as a viable choice once gang size gets above 3 or 4 ships.
A change like the one you describe would bring blob mechanics to small gangs and ruin what's good about small scale pvp. -- Terminal Impact is recruiting PVPers for fun ops in lowsec/0.0/wormhole space. Visit our website or join ingame channel "the tict pub". |

Here's to hoping they neeeever wind up doing that. If you wanted to control 10-100 guys' guns with the click of a button without having human interaction in there, for better or worse, I'd suggest playing command & conquor or something \o |

So instead of going 20+ jumps for a lagfest of a battle where you struggle to find targets and even lock them before they pop, you go 20+ jumps for a lagfest and then just go afk. omgwin.

Pffft, no. More like Sins of a Solar Empire.
I agree, though, that if anything, focus-firing needs to be nerfed, not boosted or made easier.

i know what he's talking about I think.
Fleet formation flight mechanic.
But its not in game yet. (its a post-dominion feature, not a dominion feature itself).
I understood its suppose to grant players bonuses if they stay in formation. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

But was the OP talking about a focused fire feature or was he talking about something like a leadership mod or tracking link mod that would take up a slot in someone's high/mid and boost the effective dps in the gang?
I wouldn't mind there being a leadership skill that would give a boost to dps (and taking up the extra high slot for a dps mod).

I think something like the OP is talking about has only been discussed in highly theoretical terms. These sort of discussions are usually just to wet our appetites and get the smart kids thinking. Only a small percentage of these ideas actually make it into features in some shape at some point in time, and rarely as they were originally discussed.
Some examples: - 'Ambulation' -> 'Walking in Stations' -> 'Incarna': it's been talked about for a long time, first images were shown more then a year ago and it still isn't here and we still don't know exactly what it will do - 'Planetary flight': One of the things that has been talked about for more then 2 years, and so far there are (by my knowlegde) no clear signs if it will ever happen, despite the devs still showing interest - 'System-wide astroid belts': mining was supposed to become more based on exploration. Despite the idea being seemingly quite simple and having some appeal, this hasn't turned up yet, nor does there seem to be a lot of talk about it atm. - 'Corp shops': this feature was supposed to help people set up store fronts for select groups for special prices. A version of this feature even made it on the test server in the run up to Apocrypha, but it was scrapped for that version and nothing has been heard ever since.
This should give you an indication of how unpredictable the process of feature development is. Unless specifically stated so in the patch notes of a new release / patch, don't expect new features to appear because you heard a dev talk about it somewhere. _____________________________________
