Ok, the Dominion patch notes say:
"It is now possible to view the content of containers and ships remotely. Note that you can not view the contents of password locked containers."
Very cool, you can now see what you have fitted in a ship & inside a container across the universe... but this feature doesn't work for ships in the same station as you?? (haven't tested containers, but it's not like you'd need that anyway)
Why you cannot view what you have fitted in a ship that's in your current hangar without actually changing into that ship and waiting the horrible timers in the process, when you can see what you have fitted in ships across the eve with this new feature?
There just is no reasoning for this, and I hope this is just a bug that will be corrected soon.
Please, do allow us to see what our ships have fitted, even if they happen to be in the same station with us... (pretty please with sugar on the top)

Its now possible to view containers remotley ?
Very cool but why not ships at same station. Current hanger without opening the reasoning is missing. Its bug no doubt and should happen upon a fix soon Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

Never said you can see a ship's fittings, only it's contents. Double click any ship in your hangar and you'll open the cargo hold even if you're not sitting in it. So, want to know how much is stored in your (or a corp?) freighter 10 jumps away? Now you can.

I usually just create a contract for the ship. It'll open a confirmation popup listing everything in the ship (including the fitting).
Viewing other ships fittings was also requested by the CSMs. Devs said that it would be possible with some limitations (module attributes would be basevalues without considering your skills). I remember the devs agreed to put it on their todo list.
