Jita + Patch soon + Mac = My client is crashing about once an hour now a days. (4 GB, dual core is not great but above min) (non-Jita a couple of weeks ago was < 10% of this )
If I were to voluntarily log out, I do the random warp and wait, with the time I am still available being determined by whether I am in combat or not (2 vs 15 min IIRC.) E.g., if I log out at 1:00:00 then I would leave local space at 1:02
Sometimes I crash ("do you want to send details...") and sometimes the client just hangs. So if my client hangs at 01:00, then in a few seconds will the server notice it has not gotten any handshakes from the client recently and so will treat this as if I logged out at 1:00:05 or so and I disappear at 1:02:05? Or if my client hangs, could I stay around for hours, even after I force quit the client?
Usually after the second or third crash, I want to just quit playing (for the day, I'll keep my stuff.) But do I need restart EVE and log in to my character just to log out in order to clear things? In the best of times, I find the login a bit slow and in post crash emo-whine I am even less patient. so would prefer to not have to waste a log in if I don't have to. |

Even though Mac client appears to have some problems recognizing when it has actually disconnected and will hang there on and on displaying to you that you are actually playing a game when you aren't, I don't believe server has such problems. I've ran two accounts on mac and when I shut down one and scanned with the other the ship did indeed disappear in time intended.
As for logging in slowly I noticed clearing cache improves this. It also clears various small client bugs, so I do preemptively do this every month. You might also want to put your graphics setting to low and install smcfancontrol to make sure it is not shutting down from just overheating.
Ultimately the mac client performance has always been substandard to windows client for as long as I've played. The only way around this is to bite the bullet and get windows installed on your mac if you can of course.

Thanks!
I'll go clear the cache now.
I have Windows 7 running in a Parallels virtual machine, but suspect that would be pretty slow for games. But I will go check the v5 forums. I guess if I got a new machine with Windows 7 and only used it for EVE, EFT, EVEMon it would not be too unsafe or unpleasant.
Thanks again.

If your client crashes without being able to notify the server you're now logged off, the server notices it in less than 30 seconds, at which point the standard log-off timers are applied.
