I have been doing level 4's solo in a Raven for some time now. I am considering making the move up to a CNR to (supposedly) make the missions go faster. Can somebody tell me what makes the CNR so much better than the standard Raven that it is going for 8 1/2 times the price? Is it 'really' that much faster for missions? An additional launcher slot is worth all that isk? I use 2 x drone link augmentor in place of the would be additional launcher that gives me 80km + range with T2 drones, so with the other launcher I would actually lose about 20km drone range.
A Golem is not even in the picture.
Thanks

Comments: - Who cares about 20km of drone range on a non-sentry boat? Really? You should have at least one tractor beam in there IMO. - The launcher slot is 7.0/6.0 (~16%) more DPS than the Raven. This translates to more damage on target (a minimum of 16% speed increase to your mission speed and ISK/hr) - The CNR's price isn't wildly fluctuating. If you get tired of your ISK printing machine, sell it. Then you aren't out anything, and you're furthermore up all the extra ISK you made in the mean time.

Edited by: Trebor Whettam on 18/11/2009 19:26:04 A properly fit CNR will be shooting cruise missiles with approximately the same explosion radius as HAMs. Even if (and this is a big if) there is still anything left over 45km away after your drones get done killing the close orbiting frigs and destroyers, your drones would still spend more time fly to the target than your missiles would spend to kill it.
The key here is a full rack of Rigor Catalyst rigs. Without them, the CNR is just another ship.
PS: Don't forget about the extra 50% hp buffer. It's rarely needed, but for the odd time that you screw up aggro and don't have a 1+ bil isk tank, it lets you stick around long enough to kill off the incoming dps. Warp-outs kill isk/hr ratios.

If anything remember that the CNR fan fit an extra missile bay. The other suggestions for the CNR over the Raven depend on how you like to fit things, and most can ultimately be done with either. The CNR gives you more shield to make tanking easier so fitting other damage boosting joys is easier.

CNR is well worth the money paid for it. The extra launcher adds significant dps and the 50% more shields don't hurt either.
If you are worried about drone range, train up the ewar drone skill. It gives you +3km range per level. 12 extra km at IV is not quite a drone link augmenter, but you will find it gives you all the drone range you need.

The price of a CNR hasn't always been at 500mio. About two month ago it has been down to 250mio and ppl considered using it for PvP.
If you fit the CNR a passive tank the 50% extra shield at the same recharge time of an ordinary Raven gets you a pretty impressive tank that handles even the toughest mission with ease.
One extra launcher doesn't sound like much but if you take into account that many of the tougher rats have high shield/armor recharge rate an extra launcher really makes a difference.
When I went from the Raven to the CNR I felt that it was worth the ISK. Though 500mio is pretty expensive atm. Maybe you should wait until the price went down to 350mio.

Unless the macros come back in force, the CNR is going to be around 600m for a long time. With CN Launchers and 3-4 CN BCS, plus the aforementioned extra shield and a bit more CPU (that ratchets up w/ your skill multiplier) you've got a lot more tank and a lot more gank.
Just consider that a small percentage difference can cost a huge amount of isk. compare 3% implants to 5% implants, or faction mods to tech II.
I never even flew a Raven and went to the CNR first. It is a ship killing machine and an Isk generator. Well worth the investment.
