Hello everyone!
I'm looking for some guidance on a good ship to fly around and get some PvP experience in. I'm looking for something cheap because I'm most likely going to get popped a lot, but hopefully something that will keep from getting immediately popped when I fly into 0.0 (I'd like to flail around a bit before I wake up in the clone bay).
Something on the smaller side would excellent as well, since I've been a primarily industrial player up until this point and my combat skillz are fairly weak.

Any one else have any other suggestions or thoughts? I've heard the Rifter is the best, but I'm open to other entertaining options as well.
Maybe this will help stir up some conversation... <trollbait> The Rifter is the best ship ever and can WTFPWN any other ship, with pretty much any fitting. It's unbeatable.
Oh, and one time someone popped my Rifter and CCP was like "OMG?" and I was like "I know!" and they gave me a bunch of free ISK and a map to secret Jovian star systems to compensate me because it was clearly a bug that blew up my ship.
I have a broken link to a picture I SWEAR proves it!!!!!!111!11oneone </trollbait>

T2 frigs are still somewhat cheap taking into account fittings and rigs on cruisers / BCs are lost as well when you pop.
Vexor / Thorax / Rupture / Arbitrator / Moa
Drake / Harbinger / Brutix / Hurricane / Ferox / Myrmidon
If that isnt already too big for what you have in mind.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've bought a handful of Rifters and had some fun already.
I'm getting stoked about upgrading to some other ships soon too.

This is a kestrel fitting that as far as I'm concerned is the best for PvP in terms of fun and "OMG look what I killed" moments. Probably best to use basic T1 modules as named may start to get expensive, especially since this is a kamikaze ship.
[Kestrel, Praying Mantis] Micro Auxiliary Power Core I 400mm Reinforced Nanofiber Plates I
'Langour' Drive Disruptor I 'Langour' Drive Disruptor I Warp Disruptor I
'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I 'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I 'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I 'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I
[Optional Rigs, approx 1 million ISK each] Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I
I haven't flown this since the changes to web's but I'll explain the concept. You basically sit 15km or so from the warp in point of a belt/complex/acceleration gate etc and align to something. A ship warps in you don't like the look of, warp out and try again somewhere else.
However, if a frigate/interceptor lands at the warp in point, they're likely to just MWD towards you, thinking you're easy prey. Let them get into range, double web, point and let them have it. By using a 20km disruptor you're not disabling their MWD which means they should still be lit up like a Christmas tree, allowing your rockets to pummel them. The webs help to keep them from getting out of your range, whilst your huge buffer tank should hopefully allow you to withstand their attacks whilst you just eat through them.
Like I said, I haven't used this since the speed changes so I'm not sure how well the webs will work but those 3 rigs, though they cost quite a bit for a kamikaze frigate, should help you stay alive long enough.

My first kill was against someone with a kestrel fit like that. null
The problem is that while they may be double webbed. Rocket put you in range of almost every other single weapon a frig can use. Since the signature radius of a rocket is already very small, they won't take any extra damage, and you will STILL be in an untanked kestrel using cap for a 20km point and two webs.
Good solid solo PvP ship: Rifter with a tracking disruptor, AB and point for mids :)

That kestrel kill doesn't use the fit I posted? And whilst it isn't tanked as such, it has a pretty big buffer tank (for a kessie).
The double webs are meant to effectively slow the target ship down to a stand-still whilst their MWD is on, increasing the damage they take and out-lasting untanked inties, but like I said I haven't tried it since the changed the amount webs slow you down by so it probably won't have the same effect as it used to.

For t1 frig 1v1, a properly set up auto bleeder punisher with web and scram is almost unbeatable, even from overheated neut setups and dual rep/booster rifters. The only things that can beat it are kiters but there's always a stone to a scissors. Rifter is more versatile though in anything other than 1v1, but they're overrated (or the other frigs underrated).
To the OP, join Red Vs Blue, you'll get cheap pvp on tap and plenty of guidance if you ask for it.
