I'm a passive player. What I do is business/industry/transport.
I enjoy these aspects of the game, but something happened that has turned me off to the game: suicide gank.
When my industrial ships got attacked in 0.5 a couple of times in one week, I felt EVE has no place for me.
So I've sold all my stuff and am using the isk playing EOH poker. Thing is I paid for a year, so I just log on, check my training and log off. I dont feel the enthusiasm to try and build anything when suicide attacks can take it away. When you are carrying contract cargo and have 100 to 200+ million in collateral at stake, it can be a big loss when your ship is lost. There is no loss to the attacker other than a cheap ship. The game is not balanced in that respect.
Maybe someone will want my character once my sub is up.

Well Eve is a sandbox, they are playing the game their way as are you. At the same time, if your going to move expensive cargo in a industrial know that its gonna make you a target. Heck I have played more than a year and have never been suicide ganked, partially it is I rarely carry all that much expensive stuff and if I do i sure as hell don't autopilot and use a ship that is fast and aligns very quickly.
However, in any case you were well aware of the game's dark position on pvp as compared to others, if you don't like it, then I guess Eve is not right for you anymore.

Oh look, it's another "I flew around 300 mil worth of goods in a 500k ship with 1k EHP and expected that everyone was as badly informed as me" thread.
I'd ask for your stuff but sounds like you managed to give it away already.
Perhaps WOW would be a better game for you?

What makes you think we care at all?
honestly, if you don't like the game, then we don't need to hear about it.
Like others said, there are lots of ways to prevent suicide ganking, it's just your fault for not referring to your player community for some BASIC know how -sighs-

Damnit dude, stop playing alone. Join a corp get some scouts, don't afk travel, get a blockade runner, HDFU, really.
A few pixels lost and you are on your way out. What does that say about you? At the least you are doing it wrong.
Quote: What I do is business/industry/transport.
If you know anything about this game then it should be this: you have stuff other people will do their utmost best to take it away from you. If you know that, there are as mentioned multiple ways to lower your risk.
But, whatever, you made up your mind. Too bad EVE isn't the game for you.
Bye.

Edited by: Burnharder on 04/11/2009 16:22:20 Well, OP, the amount you invest in the contract should be proportional to the care you take when doing the transport. First-up, never put down more than 10% of your isk in any transaction. If you get greedy and put up 100m for a courier when you have 101m in the bank, you're a hostage to fortune. Second, it's almost impossible to get suicide ganked in high sec in a freighter. At least nobody is going to bother unless they've got some hot intel. So as soon as you can afford one, jump in (assuming you aren't a war target and don't travel in low sec with it). Thirdly, using deep space transports (occator, viator) and warp to zero (no afk travel) is pretty much compulsory if you're moving high value goods. Using these will reduce your chance of being ganked considerably. Note that if you can afford to put down 100m on a contract, you can afford a transport. Forth, use covert ops ships to transport small, high value goods, or a nippy frigate. Don't give people the time to lock and scan you before you're wtz to the next gate.
Overall as with everything, don't risk it if you can't afford to lose it. Don't gamble a lot of your isk on one shot.

Edited by: Jovialmadness on 04/11/2009 16:28:17 Put simply you are not doing it right. I, every week or so, transport billions through high sec in a freighter. You are either auto piloting and thus diserve your fate or not using an orca to disguise this unbeliveable payload or you have ****ed someone off who has you targeted. Oh and no I don't trade for the guys in md. |

I agree. I'm a pvper btw.
People, especially industrialists, tend to forget golden rule #1. A friend of mine plays this game as an industrialist, he always negates security for profit and he still yell at us. I can't agree there.
But the game need to be balanced. I had to post a wall of text there but I forget. ~ Beer > Eve ? Eve > Beer ? |

If you can't work out how to counter suicide gankers then EvE's not the game for you. EvEmail me when your sub is up - I'll gladly take an industrial alt off your hands.

Solution is to not load a flimsy industrial ship with 100-200 million worth of stuff. Don't make yourself a target and you won't get suicide ganked.
If you are transporting small quantity of expensive materials/items use Gallente or Amarr blockade runner - you can rig them up to 10K space. If you are transporting large quantity of expensive materials/teims use a Freighter. You have to load it with a couple billion ISK before it will make any business sense for anyone to gank it.

Well, safely and passively transporting goods, isn¦t very fun either is it? My alt is flying a transport ship with shield rigs, extenders, etc. So nothing worth less than my cargo will get through that in a high sec system. If I need to transport some very expensive things, I use my Golem to transport it (adding cargo expanders instead of dmgmods in lows if needed).

What do RL money transporters use for vehicles?
Armoured ones.
If you transport stuff that others want, you better be prepared for an attack.
(That said, insurance for suicide ganking needs to be removed... just dont make any sense at all.)

Use a transport ship for anything over 100m, is it that hard? Or just put up a courier contract, they actually get taken really fast.
