I see claims like "Dont use Void, use CA"
Why is that?
Particulary I am interested in Gallente Medium Blaster ships... Thorax, Brutix, Myrmidon? There are brave ones. And then there are those whom the brave ones will follow. |

Notice some things?
Range bonus -25% =you lose range Falloff modifier 0.5 =you lose falloff range Tracking speed multiplier 0.5 =your tracking got twice as bad Capacitor need bonus 25% =you're drawing quite a bit more capacitor
That's why you don't really want to use Void.
Now, if you're in a Thorax or Brutix etc., and you're fighting a large ship, and you're right up on him, and you've got plenty of cap left, then go ahead, use Void.

Void, more like Avoid.
For the exact reasons stated above... the damage bonus isn't worth the horrible tracking and cap penalties.

The damage bonus over caldari navy antimatter is less than 5%.
The tracking is so bad that you lose way more than 5% dps.

Use Void if ratting or doing missions in a blaster ship, tracking wont be a problem thier and it does more dmg at less cost then navy.
Other then a small selection of PvE use, the only PvP use is on SiSi were navy ammo is not seeded.

I've used Void to shoot at POS mods. I.e. thankfully not often at all! ;) Join RvB!

Ahh... thanks... thad describes... So I will drop using it! There are brave ones. And then there are those whom the brave ones will follow. |

CNAM || VOID 16.1 kin || 14 kin 11.5 therm || 14 therm -50% range || -25% range 18.86 bsd || 19.6 bsd 19.55 bad || 19.6 bsd ------ || +25% cap need ------ || x0.5 tracking speed ------ || x0.5 falloff
so you get 27.6 damage, and base 38.41 damage at -50% range with CNAM and you get 28 damage, base 39.2 damage at -25% range with VOID.
seems like void does more damage with better optimal range to me, although it hits your cap harder. Ok - the tracking is worse, but you are using blasters, how far out are we talking here?

That's just it, you're not going to be very far out at all. It's hard enough for blasters to track stuff at their optimal, try doing it with nerfed tracking...

Void has more 25% more opitmal but 50% less falloff. But since blasters with antimatter have more falloff than optimal you are losing a lot of overall range.
The biggest problem is tracking. 50% worse is huge. To illustrate the point:
Heavy Neutron Blaster = base tracking 0.1, with void that is 0.05 Electron Blaster Cannons = base tracking 0.05
If you use Void in medium guns you tracking is as bad as a large gun. For a 1.4% base damage increase (27.6 damage compared to 28).
Never use void unless your shooting a stationary target and absolutely need the best damage possible, or you feel like you need a handicap becasue your so awesome.

and one last edit: CNAM 1500m Optimal/4000m falloff: 5500 total range, but 1/4 of that is outside optimal VOID 2240m optimal/2000m falloff: 4240 total range, but over 1/2 of that is optimal range.
I think there are situations where VOID makes sense...
Its actually really easy to see in the very first fight you use void. Basically void has a lot of trouble hitting things. I was in a void fitted ranis once trying to shoot at another taranis and I was missing shots at him left and right and naturally lost the fight horribly. Ever since then I stopped fitting void altogether. CNAM is just much better.

Basicly think of it like this Turret T2 short range ammo, is BAD, afaik, all of it is bad.
A Eagle with rails for example with CN antimatter (LVL5 skills, 5 rails, 4 Mag stabs), gets
- 41 km range, 15 FO - 320 DPS and 1170 volly - 0.02875 tracking
Javilin gets
- 20 km range, 15 FO - 325 DPS and 1187 volly - 0.02156 tracking.
A zealot with Heavy Pulse's (LVL5 skills, 5 guns, 3 heatsinks)
AM Multifreq Gets
- 11km range, 5 FO - 573 DPS and 1241 volly - 0.10156 Tracking
Conflagion gets
- 11km range, 5 FO - 581 DPS and 1259 volly - 0.05078 Tracking
Unless you're using the ammo to shoot POS mods, (as it is cheaper than faction ammo and does have a good deal more damage than standard ammo), never use it for genearal PVP over faction.
Luckily for missile users, our close range missiles do actually have a GOOD damage increase over faction --------------------------------------------

Try ratting in low sec in your enyo, ishkur, or in your taranis.
you WILL want to use void over caldari navy antimatter for the BS sized rats.
Is cheaper and does more damage to them. tracking is a non factor for bs sized rats. Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. StevieSG |
