Unless it's some kind of situation where your parents are buying you a laptop for college, and won't buy you anything else, don't buy a laptop for gaming.

buy a powerful laptop which will basically be heavy portable desktop, as it would have a bad battery life, you will half to alt tab if you don't have a external screen. if you buy one with a dedicated vid card you can probably get by for like 3 hours max if you got the vid card on high running on a 12 cell battery. and if you got a quad core with 2 sli/Xfire vid card, you can buy the biggest battery on the market, it wont help your battery life, gotta be plugged in at all times. i don't recommend it if your gonna take it everywhere, but if your looking for something you can take to lan parties, a expensive laptop like this, that will rock your socks. Also make sure whatever laptop you buy comes with an OS disk (not just a system restore disk, but an actual OS) as it will probably come preloaded with an assload of crapware, and you'll want to format it.

Worst. Idea. Ever.
A Mac is the LAST THING IN THE WHOLE WORLD that you want when looking for a gaming computer.
And I'll concur that it's worth your money to buy another desktop instead of a laptop. Like above, the only reason for having a "gaming" laptop is if you NEED the mobility, AND need the processing power (but you still have to sit still to play, because your battery life is only as long as your power cord).
If you don't NEED the mobility, just get a desktop. If you do, you won't be in a situation that allows you to run two clients at once, so you might as well buy something with battery life and less weight.

Dell's not horrible. Alienware is overpriced bull****; the laptops are powerful, but you can get the same thing with other brands for 1/2 the price.

If you want bang for your buck and have a limited budget, get an MSI laptop. I have an EX623 and it runs EvE great.
If you have more dollars than ISK, look at http://www.factorgaming.com/
Don't buy the MSI from MSI, save money and buy them resale from zipzoomfly or newegg.

Congrats on knowing that Dell owns Alienware. That doesn't change the fact that Alienware PCs are overpriced bull**** and Dell PCs are decent.

Edited by: Sader Rykane on 01/11/2009 09:40:18 Bought a Asus G51VX-RX05 less than a month ago. First day running eve on it right here.
Only cost around $1,000, even lower if you get a good deal. Can run two eve accounts easy, and more than that if you are so inclined =).
Really good bang for your buck. Do some research and read the reviews on it.

To get something really good your looking at around $4000.
That should get you something with:
20' screen 500+ Gig HD 4gig RAM 4gig processor
$2000 will get you: (what i have) 15' screen 300Gig HD 2Gig ram 2gig processor
Thats using US dollars.
My laptop can run EVE at full detale. I havent tried it with multiple accounts. If you ditch Vista you have a pretty good chance of getting 2 or 3 clients running.

The NEW Alienware M15x with the new Intel I7 Chipset and SSD. Its portable and is the fastest laptop around at the moment.
Editors Choice: http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=843
"With regards to performance, the results we achieved on this system and specifically those related to memory or CPU were exceptional for a mobile system. The use of IntelĘs Core i7 and PM55 platform has huge benefits over the older Core 2 range. Gaming performance was also decent with the GTX 260M allowing us to play the latest games at resolutions ranging from 1280x720 to 1920x1080. The fact that the system is able to support PhysX is also a real bonus with excellent benefits in games such as Batman Arkham Asylum."
I ordered one and should be here next week. If you buy one, say "Hi" and post on:

I'm a college student and therefore don't have a desktop (and for that matter, haven't for the last 3 years). Currently using a Thinkpad W500, works great, will manage all settings on high if you ask it to (works a little better if you don't), don't know about multiple accounts.
Can pick one up for $1100-1400 depending on 'trim level' basically.

Holy christ on a bike you got ripped off.
I spent less than $1,000 and got
17' screen 320 GB HD (500 wouldn't have been much more) 4 GB RAM P8600 Core2duo @ 2.4 ghz (clock speed doesn't mean everything).

good idea! for the same price of a good windows laptop, you can get one with a smaller screen, worse graphics, but it will be pearly white, and you can't replace the battery! its worth it! when people walk by you they will say "what a doucebag!" SARCASM OVER! do not, and i mean DO NOT get a mac, the graphics client for mac has always been slow to get better graphics. macs are not even supported on the test server!
