What I wouldn't give for a MMO based on the Battletech IP. *sniffles*
You are in the closed beta already?
I don't need a beta client to say it looks like your typical eastblock degenerate crap.
Generally you do need to play a game to comment on how the game plays...
And I agree, but then there is youtube, the footage speaks for itself. The early prototypes and different testing phases of EVE looks more polished any day than that crap. |

Just calling it now, Dezgard will the the Chribba of Pereptuum. It's true.
What makes you think I am not Dezgard?!
Also hahahah Linkage lower left corner.... mining!
Linkage - Nice NPC "icons" on the overview...
The client installer is... interesting
WAIT... THOSE SCREENSHOTS...
are you seriously Dezgard? O.o o.O DB Preacher - "We command your game now. As long as you remain in GoonSwarm, we make you play our way..." wtf is wrong with you? |

I am just disgusted. Having seen all the screens, the overview, everything. Even Microsoft tries to make some rip-off attempts look more Windows-ish.
This is just....... sad.
Looking forward to the lawsuit, to which CCP has the right to declare on them. The similarities in all of the mechanics are too obvious. ---

c'mon.
this game was probably made by 3 uni-students operating from home with a 10,000 investment.
CCP could try and sue them, but they'll lose money from the process.
Sueing them would be "Like trying to squeeze blood from a stone", as they say.

Edited by: Nefrin Maldoes on 30/10/2009 11:21:28 Just doing some quick googling, from what I've seen there are three forms of protection when it comes to gaming IP: Copyright Trademark Patent
As Copyright and Trademark go, I haven't seen anything on the Perpetuum website that screams out infringement.
Patent would concern any special designs that CCP made AND patented. In that case, they would have legal recourse to sue, or more likely, use the law to enforce gaining royalties based off of the use of the patented info/idea/code/technology. But then they would also have to prove that the developers of Perpetuum stole their patent, and just didn't actually think it up themselves (I believe).
Edit: I am not a lawyer, nor pretend to be. Google isn't perfect, nor is my understanding of international copyright/trademark/patent law.

The UI in EVE is patented, and Perpetuum is pretty much ripping it off. That is enough for a lawsuit. ---

Not sure if this is true or not, but aside:
If that's the case, then pretty much every fantasy MMO (including WoW) are infringing on IP of previous fantasy MMO's, as user interfaces for most games (excluding EVE) have become more and more alike.
Because of the unique nature of EVE, there may be grounds, but I can't find any sort of precedence that it would hold up in a court of law.

Is there a possibility that this is not a real game at all? Just a platform of attack of keylogging? Are there any independant people who have seen this game running?

I donno, it's possible.
according to my research some guy called "Dentara Rast" funded the game. No idea what nationality that is.

On the one hand it is nice that someone has recognised the features which make EVE great ... on the other hand this is just such a blatant clone it's not funny.

What about the possibility of CCP sold its engine to the hungarians? This game is so blattering similar, it has to be official.
A few years ago some strategy game with the near east-conflicts as topic was sold. It was a engine copy of Suddenstrike. They lisenced it, changed the graphics and thought of new missions. Thats it. Sounds similar to me here too!

Bugger, it seemed like a legit site but I guess thats the hallmark of a successful scam. This is how people get hacked without buying isk if any of the cva haters are reading this thread.

Well, if you're going to rip off a game, you may as well rip off a good one, eh?
I must admit, I heard about this game a while ago (not knowing how close to Eve some elements were) and thought it sounded great. Unfortunately, watching the YouTube vids really put me off. It just doesn't look all that good.

Very unlikely. Doesn't look like it anyway. I think it's more of an affront against the Battletech universe... I mean, look at animations in Mechwarrior 4, a game which came out over 8 years ago. Then look at the animations in this POS.
I hope they die a violent and fiery death, just for bastardizing Battletech like that.

I personally think its looks awesome, so ive signed for the beta .... exactly the same when I saw Eve for the first time. Beta is fun, you get an input into the game, there is a certain amount of cachet for being an old player when it goes gold etc.
Give me ****ing registration code ffs!!
