This isn't an ipo or a bond or any sort of investment. But it's a success story about one that had little chance to get off the ground.
About 3 months ago, I created an eve account. I knew how to make money, but I needed money to do it. So, I made a thread asking for 3.3B isk. I knew it was almost certainly doomed for failure. But I went through my business plan over and over to make sure it would work, on the hopes that someone might listen. That thread is Here.
People laughed, and I was given a "Scam Rating 1/10". But, 6 people were nice enough to actually contact me in game to see what it was about. Krylon Rhae posted his thoughts on my plan, but chose not to invest. 2 others didn't like the idea. The other 3 were impressed by it (and no doubt surprised). In the end, 2 of them covered the entire amount.
It took me 2 days extra before they got their isk, but in the end they collectively received 5.5B (a little extra for waiting and being generally nice people). That's a 60% return on a 3 month investment. And I made just over 2.5B myself.
Just after I made that thread, and before I got anyone to bite, I didn't think anyone would end up investing. As a result I ended up making a new character for a main, because if I didn't get any isk, I at least didn't want to start with a negative reputation.
What's the point of this thread? Well, with banks collapsing, and isk being run off with left right and centre; I thought a small success story wouldn't be so bad to brighten up the MD forum. Much thanks to my 2 angel investors for listening to (and helping me improve) my plan, and launching me on a very profitable eve career.
Much luck in your future investments MD :)
TL;DR If you DR anything that's TL, you shouldn't be in the MD forum. |

Grats! It's a shame that the MD discourse is frequently dominated by the minority of scams, and the suspicion they throw on others, rather than the many success stories. I suspect that the often hostile tone of the forum is one of the reasons that there are not enough offerings to keep pace with the isk that people are clearly keen to invest. Could the tone of the forum be damaging business for the investors themselves?

I think it's good that people are suspicious and aggressively inquisitive...I just don't think it's necessary to be a dikhead about it.

True. But it is possible to be suspicious and incisive with regards to content whilst remaining polite and considerate with regards to the individual (as you say, not being a dikhead about it). An aggressive tone, on the other hand, hinders communication by creating emotional responses that get in the way of clarity and may seem more suspicious than they would have done if presented in a calmer state of mind (the recent TMPI thread provides an example of this). It also makes the forum a less attractive place to present one's wares and it seems likely that this will lead some people to choose not to present perfectly investable plans to the forum because they don't want the hassle and frustration involved in constantly trying to address, not questions, but accusations. If this is indeed the case then the investors here will miss out on a variety of good deals because of an atmosphere initially fostered to protect their interests.

Nice OP.
In my experience in EVE not that many are actually scammers. I mean, there are a lot of scams, but there are a lot more players than scams.
The paranoia is too much. Don't risk what you can't afford and go with your gut over any "MD Elite" (lol, wannabe RL bankers or something) advice.

This thread to me seems more like a "this is what you get for not trusting me", and a bit of a gloat. Also looks like a precursor to a bigger bond/investment offering which may or may not end well.
Sorry to put a negative spin on this thread but it just seems a little too planned.

Also, according to the thread you linked there was no-one at all listed as an investor. If you had 3 people loan you a total of 3.3b it cant be proven unless they actually post here and say they loaned you the cash.
Somehow I knew a post like that was coming. The two (not three) who invested in me aren't members of the MD elite, and I wouldn't presume to post their information for all to see. But you know what the best part is? I don't have to. I'm not asking for isk, and I'm not going to be. I have decent trading skills now, and as of tomorrow can fly blockade runners. I have a decent start on a trading empire, and make enough isk to play for free if I wanted to (but probably won't for a while to build capital faster). So no, this isn't a precursor to further investment.
And it may seem like I'm gloating, but the only hidden motivation I have is maybe a message to the new players out there that read the MD often but are afraid to post, that the MD isn't just for the elite.
