I was thinking back to my old days of early EverQuest and realized one aspect this game seems to void is a pilot's reputation. Whereas some people are infamous for their work both inside and outside the game - Chribba is a prime example, save for reading forums, I would not know the difference between another low sec pirate versus Verone. The fine line between alternative characters to the main characters have been obliterated with the ease of contracts and direct transfers. I used to think a pilot's security rating meant something about the person's potential actions, but negative security pilots have been helpful while positive security pilots attempted to destroy me without provocation. It seems the oversize universe of EVE translates into pilots being crabs in a bucket. The moment one crab / pilot achieves a bit of an overall edge, the mass populace pulls that pilot back into the muck and mire. Whereas I have performed over a hundred courier missions across Empire quite successfully, I am just another nameless pilot in the grand scheme. One of the latest videos about how one pilot's actions, no matter how small, can have quite a ripple effect on the universe seems to be misleading. Perhaps that one courier mission I performed delivered something to a pilot that later ruined another pilot's day. Maybe I am not seeing the causes and effects of my actions. Short of prostituting myself on the forums about my deeds, I am just another crab. Nobody will look at their accepted courier mission, see me running it, and think to themselves, "Alright, I know this will be successful." I am just a crab, and take away the forums and everybody appears as a crab too.
So is it possible to build an in-game reputation that spans greater than that pilot's immediate influence without having to rely upon the out-of-game aspect for help?

Could easily be implemented but then you would have all the little piwates giving good rep to their buddies in an attept to lure in unsuspecting pilots. Sure, after a while they might get a bad rep, but until then, the system would be useless. Not to mention the fact that not everybody cares enough to actually give an evaluation of everyone they meet in the game...
Overall: Pointless

Good subject, although now i'm somewhat depressed.
With many characters being traded in the bazaar each day the integrity of any such system would be compromised from the start. People are people, and i guess thats why we tend to play in Corps with people we know (and hopefully trust).
