Basically, during the Dust piece, much was made of using nukes, including the quotes from Aliens :)

One of the things you can do to planets is nuke them, from orbit.

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 03/10/2009 18:45:22 There was mention made of Nuking a portion of a planets surface as one option when developing/defending your territory when playing the planetary interaction aspect of EVE.
There was also mention of DUST players being able to deploy Nukes if it was sanctioned by their Commander (presumably you, the person that has hired them).
I'll have to watch the video when it is released to see if I can discern if those are two separate options or the same thing.
I am thinking they may very well be separate options, as they emphasized that planetary conquest/defense could happen just as easily without interaction from the other game. In other words, EVE doesn't need DUST to do planetary interaction stuff, and DUST isn't totally dependent on EVE to be fully playable. However, there would be certain advantages for the two games to be played interactively to achieve certain goals. The fact that DUST alliances can be part of EVE alliances I think is a pretty clear indicator of their intentions.

I took it as the "Eve" player, who is doing "Planetary Interation", can request it, but the "Dust" player actually sets it off.
It seems that the "Eve" player needs to request it, before the "Dust" player can do it.
But we will find out the details Soon.

Ummm yeah. I imagine that will happen in the same release where DUST players will be able to man planetary defense batteries and blow you out of orbit with one massive volley.

No, it looks as if it will be kind of a last ditch effort to keep the territory, or if you are loosing the territory, to burn everything to the ground before you leave the system. It was stated that you could develop territories presumably to increase income from them, so I am guessing nuking it will be kind of like wiping the slate clean and starting over.
It doesn't seem like you will actually be able to bomb into a battlezone. That would be kind of overpowered and boring too, I think.

I don't remember hearing anything about DUST players being able to plant nukes, but i could have missed it. Like someone else mentioned, i heard it during the planetary interaction part. As in EVE players interacting with planets.

I believe they said DUST commanders can call in a nuke if they have enough "war points" or whatever it is.
The orbital nuking had to do with planetary interaction, not DUST.

Let's clear the confusions. There were TWO mentions of nukes during the FF.
The first one was EVE related. They said that to conquer an enemy district on a planet during planetary interaction you can just nuke it out. But this destroys all the infrastructures built on it, so if you want to keep them intact you will need DUST players to clear the area for you.
The second mention of nukes was related to DUST. They said that a DUST player, with enough kill points or whatever, can request a nuke, but they didn't really clarified how those nukes relate to the district nuking of EVE, and nobody asked.
