Just something I noticed watching the previous day's presentation on youtube... The Incarna clip said that being out of the pod meant you weren't registered on any network.
Would this mean we're not going to be visible in local once we're out of the goo-pod?

If it means you can view local without being visible in it it would make a huge difference.

Well if you aren't on any network you can't very well view it either now would you?

I think you're reading too much into this... I'm sure its just a reference to walking in stations and interacting within them.

Trailers often don't represent accurate gameplay.
It's safe to assume we'll have an in station "local", so getting out of your pod would be an equivalent of jumping to the next system.

The gang wait in station (nobody show in local).
A bait get aggro and then the gang undock.
Even better than logoffski trap.

Except, for all we know, it takes 5 minutes to wire your brain back into your pod...

except that when you board your ship you are "connected," and since your ship is still docked when you board it you wouldn't have to undock to see local...and you would be seen by everyone else in local.
Oh, and don't forget about that "other dude" in station that CAN see you, and is telling your enemy exactly what you're doing - "they're all heading for the dock...don't worry tho, you'll still have 30 seconds after they board their ships before they can undock. We'll see what their numbers are before we camp station or bug out." --------------------------------------------------

Station owners can only decide who docks or not and for some magical reason outposts use corp standings, not alliance. This means if you have Goonswarm red only on alliance level and they dock in your outpost you have to listen to their smack without being able to do anything about it.
Silly, I know. Could at least use an option to force unwanted people to undock.

Possibly, since Incarna will be run from its own servers. CCP have said that WiS wont CPU hurt EVE online because WiS will be run from its own servers, so its only natural that you wont show up in local if you aint present in that particular system/server anymore. You are now present on that particular planet.

Incarna means in flesh or somewhere along those lines. Looks like the anticipated ambulation expansion.

If there is an In-Station local, and the In-Space loacl, we're all used to, then maybe when you're docked and in your ship you see both. Would be helpful to let you know if you want to bother with getting out of your ship or not.

Edited by: Crimsoneer on 03/10/2009 15:42:55 Maybe not not appearing local, but disconnecting from the system will definitely now have a gameplay application of sorts. To quote Senior Producer Torfi Olafsson on an interview on mmorpg.com,
Quote: MMORPG.com: Can you talk about Ambulation; it has been a while since it was announced.
Torfi Olafsson: Building an MMO is a highly complicated task. The interactions, the systems, and the interaction between the systems are far more challenging than a single player game that will be finished in thirty hours of game play. The initial plans for Ambulation did not lean very high on the game design part of it. It was more a venue for socializing and player interactions. As we went deeper into it our ambitions grew and we realized that since we were providing this extra dimension to game play we really wanted to make it as engaging as possible. So we are victims of our own ambition in that sense. We feel that we're going to release it when it is ready. We have people working on it. We are working on both the technology and the game design. I can tell you a little about it. Our approach to it to date is that you are a pod pilot in EVE. You spend most of your time locked in your pod, floating in goo. You are jacked into your ship. You can launch a volley of missile with a single thought. You can destroy industrial ships with a blink of an eye. You are almost god-like in how your ship is an extension of your mind and your will. That is the back ground. That is who you are. So for you to leave that ship and be thrown on the floor of a smelly, stinky, space station being nothing more than a weak human frail piece of flesh is both revolting to you and humiliating. So what is driving you to go into the stations is you go in there to do stuff which cannot register on any network, on any electronic communication network at all. So your reason for going into the space station is to go offline basically. So that is going to be the interaction with people in the dark smelly stations.
