Edited by: Saietor Blackgreen on 30/09/2009 18:55:20 This often gets in as advantage of lasers, especially for dreadnoughts - they dont need reloading, thus are easier to manage in case of lag, long siege, etc.
What surprises me is that while guns and launchers do have auto-reload they dont have auto-fire! Doesnt this seem illogical? There were no orders to stop firing - replace the ammo clip (or ammo train in case of dreadnought) and continue! Target is still there in the sky!
Why isnt it in the game? Why noone is whyning the hell out of it? Seems like a great feature to introduce, no?
This will automatically balance out the advantage of lasers, that they are not supposed to have, as this is interface feature rather than game mechanics.
Or is tis intended somehow for balancing/diversity? Then its just outright no fun :)
P.S.:
Sorry - wrong forum. Move to features and ideas I guess? ---

I know what u mean cuz i wondered about that myself, but i also gave myself the answer... there should be a limit at automating stuff don't u agree? Or would u also like a robot that does L4's for u? Hell why bother playing at all then, just login once in a while to see how ur wallet does...
Some people acually would like to see more hands on approach even, like the steering... imagine eve with the controls of Freelancer for instance. ________________________________________________

Like yourself I'm not sure if this is a limitation set balance guns or for other reasons, but we have an option to toggle the auto reload, perhaps add an option to auto fire following reload.
Giving the mission farmer another tool of automation is one possible excuse, but then, could they not just use lasers if they wanted a weapon system that needed less management, besides changing crystals to alter range. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.

If this is anti-automation feature, then lasers have to have it too. Plus, this is relevant for PvE, but in PvP you already have quite a lot of parameters to watch, especially in really hot gang/fleet battles. I dont see any point in not having "continue firing on target after reload" feature. ---

I can't think of anything particularly obvious, they'd still have the reload time. Seems reasonable to me. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I PvE, it takes less than a full clip to kill a single rat. I end up having to reload in the middle of killing another rat.
As for automation, I'm not sure how this pertains to farmers. When a target is destroyed, the guns turn off and need to be reactivated on another target. That's just fine. I approve. However, if you run out of ammo halfway through a mob, they should reload and keep firing.
This wouldn't let you target a bunch of mobs and auto-fire until they're all dead. -------------------------------------------------- Eve-Online Parodies: Music To Laugh To |

heres a better one for you, queuing up a reload of different ammo.
It sucks to have to deactivate the gun first, then swap the ammo, then refire.
I rather have
Order swap ammo, gun automatically deactivates and cycles out the ammo as soon as its done cooling down. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 21SEP09

You know what would be even cooler? A button to press to turn on "smart mode" so that when people made trivial posts unrelated to anything at all for the sake of seeing their own words on a webpage, the posts would automatically get rejected and posted instead into a stickied thread called "Come lol at the R-tards" in a new subforum called "Junk No One Wants to Read"
That would be cool indeed! You'd have your own place to go troll at will and not feel awkward mingling amongst people talking about things you don't understand.

What I mean is people is too lazy.
Why do you all want this feature? It's obvious you do afk-missions and it's annoying to come back and check your launchers turned OFF - happened to me - specially lame when you were killing a 2M battleship -
The answer is easy, the more active you are playing, the better reward. It's not cool to play afk and get the very same rewards. Kinda macroing and botting but legal of course.

^^ That doesn't make any sense. When an NPC ship pops, the guns still de-activate, regardless of whether they just reloaded or not. How would auto-fire after reload allow you to afk missions?

It's not people being lazy, it's helping closing a major gap that the lasers have on ammo using weapon systems.
In huge fleet battles, and especially in cap battles, there is a good deal of lag, even with reinforced servers. This means that there is a huge delay between when the gun deactivates client side, reloads client side, and allows you to hit it again to keep on firing, wasting time waiting for your client to be able to do anything.
And don't assume this is just for people who AFK mission run. If that is true, why aren't you making a thread about how Lasers are overpowered cause they don't have to reload, or they can instant reload into another crystal, or that drones don't use ammo or fuel, and that they auto-attack ships agressed to you or agressed to the person you've assigned them to.

Being able to AFK missions is not a justified reason for keeping this mechanic. Missions should be fixed so AFKing is difficult if not impossible. Keeping a feature for the sake of inconvenience is not a solution to anything except to annoy people. Why don't we have modules deactivate after one cycle? Why don't we put in manual aim? If you disagree with these suggestions does it make you lazy too?

I may be wrong, but (back in the day) I seem to remember guns and missile launchers automatically firing again after they reloaded.

Hey I should make more posts like this. I should make a profession.
"For a nominal fee I can create a post on a very minor but curious aspect of the game, that will very efficiently separate sensible players from flamers".
Guys, please. If you are so worried about automation, do you think it is THAT hard for a FOF-Raven pilot to create a btach that will send "F1" command to EVE in an interval of full clip firing plus reload?
I am speaking purely of PvP experience. People above who spoke of fleet fights, POS sieges and especially dreadnoughts spoke well. I just never thought this is so unknown to the general crowd.
Apologies, I probably did not explain well WHY abscense of auto-firing is actually a bad thing, apart from being just inconvenience.

While I don't object to a auto fire feature being implimented, it would certainly need to be an option. Also would it refire on your last target, or your currently selected target?
I can think of one scenario where having an auto fire (on currelty selected target) after reloading being detrimental- RR gangs.
Think about it, you're shooting away at the target, your guns run dry and reload, you currently have a friendly targeted to apply RR to them as they are taking a hammering, your guns reload and open fire on your target... oops... auto friendly fire. If there is lots of RR being thrown about in a fight it's not all that difficult to imagine this happening. -------------------------------------------------

This reminds me of the time they bugged the refire rate on lasers and revelations could cap drain themselves in seconds firing several hundered (thousand) shots. ----
