Hey all you pilots out there,
Me and a friend are running a survey for our school project concerning MMO Account Security. We're from the The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. (HHS for the Dutch among us) We hope to use the survey to get a clearer picture on what is currently going on regarding account security. The survey is anonymous and we'd be very grateful if you could take a minute to answer the questions. It only takes a minute or two, you'll be done before you know it.
As an EVE player myself (and a former WoW resident) I'm interested in finding out how the community stands in light of MMO Account Security. My friend actually had his WoW account stolen once so we're both quite invested in the results.
If you have one or two minutes to spare and would like to help us out, you can find the survey here.
Thanks in advance! ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

No offense, but your survey is a bit confusing, misleading and/or not entirely relevant.
For instance, you ask if anybody ever asked for your password, but there's no follow-up on it (i.e. did you give it to him or not). You also ask if they have an antivir and if they do regular scans, but you don't ask if the antivir does run-time scans anyway (so the point of running any scans at all is... well... nearly no point at all). Oh, and your "optionals" are not really well grouped, and some of the questions are "leading".
You might want to rethink your questions a bit.

It is, that question is related to Real Money Transactions in EVE. Knowing that might help us find out if and how RMT is related to account theft. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Answer to why I think my account is safe...
Common Sense.
That and a ridiculously strong password.
On another note, how do you like your pods in the morning? |

Every answer is valid (well aside from Chuck Norris) and we've seen some interesting responses so far. Thanks for doing the survey
Originally by: SupaKudoRio On another note, how do you like your pods in the morning?
Scrambled ofcourse
Getting some good responses now, keep it coming, who knows what we'll discover! ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

So if i offer a eve friend to host a TS server for the server cost and maybe a donation (something many alliances do btw) that is related to RMT? heh RMT is the cold hard real life currency for isk, assets or characters not a service like a ts host or a website for the corp.
I am guessing you are a first year student because that survey is a bit **** in general. Go ask the teacher about proper and relevant follow ups and while you are at it the chapter control questions could use a re-read aswell.

Done, a few comments.
Quote: How much ISK would you say you have?
Assets or only liquid isk? (I did put my isk balance without assets)
Quote: Have you ever logged into EVE on a computer that wasn't yours?
A bit misleading. I have logged from a computer that is not mine but it is a computer where I am well aware of the security level and where I control that security level (essentially, I logged from my office ).
Quote: Have you ever been approached by someone who offered services in exchange for real money?
Reply is no as I don't consider EVE mails or spamming in local messages to "me".

If possible, the total amount of ISK you'd have taking in liquid ISK, assets, ships, all of it. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

You should rephrase the question then (or hope people will check the whole thread). It seem targeted to isk only.
BTW, another question, the survey is limited to 1 reply for each player or 1 reply for each account?

Sadly the provider of our Survey has made it so that modifying a question will nullify previous results. The survey is one per player.
Keep it coming pilots, we've got some great responses so far! ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Edited by: Aion Amarra on 01/10/2009 14:22:35 I'd prefer comment fields on every question.
Some also don't make sense whatsoever.
"Why do you think your account is safe?" - text field
followed by
"Have you taken additional precautions against account theft?" Yes/No.
Er. What?
Edit: Also, if you want to circumvent losing your previous results. Start a new 'Tech II' Survey with overhauled questions, keep the results of the old one. No reason to edit anything.

Don't forget that this survey has a biased sample - you are getting people on the forums to take the survey, but are missing people who don't frequent the forums. I would dare say that people who visit the forums everyday will be more aware about account security issues and will be more proactive in protecting their account than your average EVE player.

JIHAD, is a noun to describe a struggle. Its been used by several Authors namely Frank Herberts "Dune" for instance to describe a Holy or religious war long before the recent conflicts in the middle east.
A person engaged in a jihad is termed a mujahid or pluralised to a group merely add "een" to the end.
The Amarr race is fanaticaly religious, again this falls in line with islamic fundamentalists, crazy backward southern biblebelt "cleatus" types and so forth. And as such place their faith in immaginary beings well above their own personal sanity, safety and sociability. Theyre all fighting a war they believe is holy and therefore JIHAD fits enirely appropriately, regardless of anyones "OH NOES THEY R BRINGING REAL LIFE INTOES MAI VIDYAGAEM!"
Infact by following your logic, why speak any current language at all? I mean someone brought up pizza in a chatbox, this clearly reminded me of real world pizza and therefore should be termed something entirely different. What exactly should we call holy pizza if it has an impact on a fragile escapists psyche? This infadel pizza clearly offends my better sensibilities, a new name must be formed by consensus lest i cry more.

Did the survey. Thought you might be interested in this. But this one time before i knew of eve i played wow. Im safe with my account i don't tell anyone my password and i don't download things that say "make 5 billion isk a second download this addon and run the exe." But my wow account got hacked. I didn't understand why or how it was possible i did a little bit of searching their forums and found of this nasty little key logger that you get when you MOUSE OVER ADVERTISEMENT you didn't even have to click the banner. It was found on game fan sites and brought to the owners of said sites attention and the adds were immediately moved. Not sure if this is true or not or if it even helps you. But I'm safe with my accounts and my wow account got hacked twice in 1 month.

Hence why this survey is only one part of our investigation/research into the subject We'll be asking players ingame from various areas (so as to not exclude any one group) if they have a minute to answer a few questions for a survey.
