I've been considering using an Ishtar for running lvl 4 missions, but im a bit worried about how much dps i can put out while only using drones.. Is it a viable mission boat compared to say, the Dominix?
Its going to be about a month of training before i can even step into the Ishtar, but all the required support skills are good to have for any ship. Even the Assult Ship IV seems like a really good investment with the upcoming patch.(from what ive read about the ab bonuses).
I have Gallente BS I.. so i can fly the Domi, but I cant even use large guns or large armor reppers atm.. And it will take me about 15 days to get a decent fit on it.
All of my tanking skills are in armor tanking, while alot of the PvE Ishtar setups ive seen are running with a shield tank. Would shield tanking give me any significant advantages apart from a passive shield tank vs nos?
And how would the Ishtar be for probing out plexes or wormholes?(and running them)Not sure about the termonology here, but im talking about the stuff that you need probes to find.

If you don't stick guns on either ship, the Ishtar does just as much damage as the Domi (or, well… technically, the Ishtar does at least as much damage, since the drone bonus is always 50%, whereas the Domi's bonus can be 10–50%). If you start sticking guns on them, the Domi comes out ahead, but only against battleship-sized targets. Still, stick some medium hybrids on the Ishtar, and it's certainly no slouch in that department either (again, the Ishtar's hybrid bonus is pinned at 25%, whereas the Domi's varies from 5–25%).
The Ishtar also tanks like a [bad word involving moms], no matter which route you take — the passive shield tank is insane, but also makes everything hit harder; an active armour tank is semi-insane, but effectively reaches the same levels since nothing will hit you properly (just make sure to fit an AB and to kill webbing frigates as early as possible).
If you're into exploration, the Ishtar has one major advantage: it can get the hell out very very easily, since it's still a small, fast and nimble cruiser. On the other hand, if things start to go wrong, it's a more fragile ship so you don't have the same margins… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I find the ishtar faster in level 4 missions then the domi, but I have pretty high skill points domi is probably a better choice at low sp.
Ishtar is probably the best ship in the game for plexing or at least one of the best in my opinion. Passive shield tanked ishtar is pretty solid and with good skills sentry drones put out enough dps for almost any of the npcs. But really you need high skill points to make it worthwhile.
I'd stick to the domi until you have the drone skills trained high (t2 Sentries and heavies are a must). The support skills are also pretty essential.

Small or medium laser of some description depending upon cpu/grid left 2 x tractor 2 x salvager 1 x passive em shield 3 x LSE 1 x Afterburner 4 x Shield power relay 1 x power diag 2 x shield purger
Should be putting out around 120 hps into minimum resist of 50em ( < with skills )
you'll still need to ab around to reduce damage in heavy damage environs.
but you can agro a whole room and then just give the drones something to kill and then let them get on with killin the whole room while you loot and salvage.
kill anything that fits a web first , otherwise you might die !

Purger rigs are a waste for level 4's I've found they are not needed, shields rarely drop below 70% with the setup below, trick is to orbit your sentry drones, greatly reduces the damage you take.
[Ishtar, mision]
125mm Railgun II
Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Explosion Dampening Amplifier II Explosion Dampening Amplifier II
Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II
Medium Sentry Damage Augmentor I Medium Sentry Damage Augmentor I
Garde II x5
Thats what I've been using (obviously change hardeners to suit) and it's probably over tanked. Going to try dropping 1 shield extender for a afterburner / omni directional tracking link.
If you want to get through missions faster fit for dps not for tank and for that your going to want the sentry damage rigs. 540 dps just from drones is kind of crazy... ~~~

I thought it was silly too until a guy in my corp did level 5 missions solo in a shield tanked ishtar, it passive tanks very well. I use shield extenders on my pvp ishtar (sometimes). So not too much of a stretch to do the same in missions. Only problem is massive EM hole, I use sentry domi for EM missions, ishtar for the rest.

Number one... people need to realize that the Drake is NOT the only ship in the game that can Shield Tank.
Ishtar in particular is awesome, because it has even numbers of armor and shield HP, as well as even Mid and Low slots.
Number two... active armor Ishtars can be awesome, so long as you keep moving with an AB, and don't get webbed. However, the moment you do get webbed, you're toast. The base armor HP is too low to withstand hits from L4 BS. Even if you have dual MAR fit, you're dead between cycles.
Whereas the extra shield HP you'd gain from LSE, combined with the regen, and the inherent Kin/Therm resist... makes the passive shield Ishtar particularly nasty in Guri/Serp missions.
In fact, you're pretty safe just floating "AFK Domi" style with the shield tank. Of course, setting up a simple orbit around the arrival beacon or a Jet Can or something will make you nigh invincible. |
