Way back when, i was allways a fan with the option to turn widescreen on or off. I allways had it on, & i wasnt the only one. So i was gutted when they removed this feature.
Did anyone else have this enabled & would want it brought back? Would the developers even consider bringing it back? I cant remember why it got took out. It was too long ago.
So please show your support by liking the thread!

The widescreen the OP is talking about is the option that added black bars to the top and bottom of the screen. I think some people placed windows over those bars to make the text easier to read however I wouldn't know. stop deleting my posts |

I bought one of them DVD movies the other day and it said that it was widescreen. I didnt know what that was and after asking the guy several questions at the store I decided to get it. Now I have to figure out how to hook up the CD player to the TV so I can watch it. My Grandson Jimmy is comin over later and perhaps he can figure the thing out. I remember when I was a kid I used to know some things that my grandparents didnt know or understand but now ah days it seems that everything new has some kind of internets or wefe or is wireless and I can never figure out how they work. I remember when I was a kid there were things that I knew that my grandparents didnt know... Yesterde I put up a new bird feeder that's supposed to keep out the squirrels... I hope it works better then the last one I had. |

The black bars were the entire point. CCP still doesn't get basic UI concepts, the black bars made it easier to see activated modules etc up against glaring nebulae. |

Oh right. Still fail to see what it was that was hard to maintain. & glaring nebulae is a problem. Certain situations, i cant even tell if my modules are even on! Never had this problem on the black background.
It needs looking at again i think. |

2560x720 isn't wide enough? The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

This 'widescreen' option was initially added way back to give the option of providing a more cinematic feel to EVE at a time when widescreen monitors were generally not available. Widescreen monitors are pretty much standard nowadays (1920x1080 and 1680x1050 are by far the most common full screen resolutions) and it was simply too much work to maintain this option. Erlendur S. It's not about the 'wideness' of the screen, Explorer, the point of it was the improvement of the usability of the UI for some people. |

I honestly think this is a case of we are not asking for what we need
we are asking for leter box vision where we are wanting the ability to place black boxes behind some our UI
so CCP give us UI to allow us to make black boxes that can be layed below the UI
this way some people may make them pink boxes.... some people may eve make a cockpit view though this....
I am assuming that people would pay some aurum to have a modifyable solid block underlay The Goons are Coming, The Goons are Coming Jita the April 28, Hulk a geddon April 29 for a month. The Best Tears are the Geifer's Tears. just hope the new crime watch system is in place by then.... oh the chaos will rain!!! |

CCP? Miss the entire point of usable UI? Noooooo.... rofl
On a more serious note, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who after each warp starts panning the camera around to find a "dark" piece of the background to actually see what I'm targeting and whether my modules are on and stuff.

Genuine question: In what was was it hard to maintain?
I would have thought drawing a black box on a screen would have been one of the easiest things that could have been done, given all the complexities of the 3D stuff you're already doing in the scene.
How come it Isn't just a case of drawing a box from each corner, and tweaking the size based on the resolution by rounding it the nearest percentage? Or even allow the players to specify the region it is being drawn?

I realise that there is probably a lot more we could do; but perhaps we could in this thread focus on what the issues are but not look at the 'widescreen' option as the solution. Erlendur S. Thorsteinsson | Software Director | EVE Online, CCP Games | Follow on: Twitter / Google+ |
