Last night while bug hunting in Shiva I came across Interceptor skill cheap, but it was 15 jumps away. So I started training Gal Battleship to lvl5 and decided to do some agent missions before I went out to get the skill book.
Anyway I had around 200K SP already trained toward BS Lvl5 and over the course of time it took for the agent missions and 15 jumps I had trained about another 100. When I got the new book and switched to train it, I got a popup saying that I would lose all skill points trained toward BS lvl5 if I switched now!!!!!! I went ahead and switched to see what would happen and low and behold I was reduced in skill points back to the max for lvl4. This is pure BULL****, for as long as I can remember in Eve I have been able to stop a skill training and switch without lossing any points. Why do this now?
My character has been around since launch, all of my original skills are at lvl4. When I know I may not be able to play for a few days I will set a skill training to lvl5. When I get back I would switch to training lvl1 - lvl3 skills. At night when I log off, I again switch to a skill that requires long training so that if for any reason I can't get back to Eve for a few days I won't lose any training time.
This change is goign to hurt the non-power players and IMHO is stupid.

You know Sisi has its own learning system to give players the possibility to learn skills at ridiculous SP/min?
It's different. It has always been like that. -----

i tried that just now, and i got:
You are currently training Drone Interfacing to level 5. If you start training this skill, your current training process will be halted. Doing this will not cause you to lose any of the skill points you have already gained while training Drone Interfacing to level 5. Are you sure you want to continue?
what are you talking about? dont scare me like that..
but if that was there... omg.. worst idea ever...

the client side hasent been updated with the new training speed increasement, so when u choose to halt it the client appears to override the server values and so u loose any sp that the server has trained for u

no its not true. on TQ atm, if u hit abort training it just stops where it was, u dont lose any SP.
And why are people concerned about losing SP on a damn test server? not as if it means anything (like people spending an hour picking up loot after a lvl4 mission. why bother?)

This is how I think skill training changes work on Sisi:
If you cancel your current training or start to train another skill before the old one is completed, the trained SP drop, but with respect to the amount of time you spent training that skill.
If you train a skill, relog and then train another , the "95%" will drop back to 0%-1%.
That's my assumption after playing a little with skills on the development server. -----

Edited by: NoNamium on 27/10/2004 10:13:29 Hi!
When Shiva comes out I hope that this will NOT be something that is implemented on Tranquility. Losing skillpoints simply because you're not able to get out of bed at 3 A.M. monday morning before your big presentation at work to start skill training again is simply put stupid.
I don't want to sacrifice the rest of my life to this game just because a 13 day skill training doesn't match with my available "game-time-slots".
CCP, this wont do at all. people interested in keeping their skilltraining going will be seriously hurt by such a change, and calculating which skill to train in order for your schedule to fit is a major pain.
- Here's hoping that "skill changing"-change doesn't make it to Tranquility, NoNamium

Well it is not really a change. It is just a way to learn skills faster and is implemented on sisi for test purpouses.
It will not make it to tranquility.
I think even on sisi you do not loose the skill points you acctualy trained when changing skills (you just loose the 95% of skill points you got as a bonus, which you get back if you restart training the given skill)
